The insider’s guide to Titanic Deluxe Belek

This week’s blog is an insider’s guide to the Titanic Deluxe in Belek, Turkey. This is a new, all-inclusive, five-star resort which joined the other fantastic hotels and golf courses here in Belek. This blog will give you all the information you need to know about the Titanic Deluxe as well as its surroundings and the great golf you can play when staying here.

1

The Titanic Deluxe opened in the Spring of 2013 and has been a hit for golfers and non-golfers alike since. This is one of the larger hotels in Belek with 600 rooms, 9 outdoor pools, 2 indoor pools, an aqua park as well as a spa and fitness centre. With so many places around the hotel grounds to relax and soak up the sun after a round on the golf course it is no surprising how popular this resort is. If soaking up the sun isn’t your cup of tea, then you can enjoy relaxing in the spa centre where you can enjoy the Turkish bath or an array of treatments. Asides from golf, the many swimming pools and the spa area, the hotel offers you the opportunity to play on one of the 9 tennis courts or on the professional grass football pitches. Unlike many of the other hotels in Belek, the Titanic Deluxe is not located directly on the beach but as it is by the river the hotel offers you the chance to have a private boat tour down the river and to the beach rather than walk!

2

All of the rooms are fully-furnished and are very modern. They are all fitted with a LED TV, central air conditioning and a minibar with a variety of different drinks. Each of the rooms has their own private balcony where you can enjoy views of the river or the gardens. As with many other fantastic five-star hotels you will never be short of somewhere to get a drink or some food! The hotel boasts five different restaurants including a buffet restaurant and four a la cartes which serve Turkish, Italian and seafood speciality dishes. There are also 14 different bars for you to enjoy, each with a different setting and some with different speciality drinks!

3

The hotel is close to two golf courses: Titanic Golf Club and National Golf Club which are the two courses most commonly played by guests to the Titanic Deluxe. Titanic Golf Club (formerly known as Tat Golf Club) features 27 interesting holes for players to enjoy here. The 27 holes are made up of three loops of 9 holes named Mediterranean, River and Forest. As the course is situated between the Besgoz River and the Mediterranean Sea it is no surprise that water comes into play on over half of the holes! This course is a little less challenging than most of the other courses in the area but is a great, fun round full of holes that vary in scenery and difficulty. There are many stand-out holes across the 27 holes but there is a signatory for each set of 9 holes. The par-3, 4th hole on the River loop is played from an elevated tee facing towards the mountains and where you have to aim your ball to the right of the hole to avoid the huge lake. The par-4, 12th hole on the Mediterranean loop is a hole that you play alongside the sea which means that if you’re not careful you could end up landing a ball onto the beach! The 22nd hole on the Forest loop is a par-5 and the hole is on a green surrounded on three sides by water. This is a great course and is a perfect ‘holiday’ course.

4

The National Golf Club is a truly magnificent golf course which has been built to incorporate well into its surroundings which is rolling terrain which ventures through pine and eucalyptus trees. To add to the course’s surroundings is the backdrop of the snow-capped Taurus mountains which seem ironic as the course is bathed in hot sunshine for the majority of the year! It is imperative that you choose the correct tee box when taking on this course as if you choose correctly you will have a fantastic time and if not, you may not be celebrating during your post-round drink. This course is very well-kept and has very tight fairways which make it a challenge for all 6,300 yards of it! It is one of the tightest driving courses in the area with plenty of great holes which will certainly keep you on your toes. The bunkers are deep and should be avoided at all costs if you are wanting to score anywhere near your handicap as it is a challenge in itself to get your ball out of one of them! The 2nd and 5th holes are great par-3s and the 18th hole is a superb end to the round where you have to navigate around the water hazards which partially surround the green. This is another spectacular course that you can enjoy when you stay at the Titanic Deluxe.

5

With Antalya airport just under 20 miles from the resort this is a great resort, with two fabulous golf courses and plenty to do, eat and drink all in a great location. Furthermore, the Kaleici district (also known as Old Antalya) is 25 miles away and here you can venture out to enjoy the history of Antalya and enjoy fine dining as well as a walk around the harbour.

6

This resort is perfect for your next golf holiday to Belek and somewhere where you can enjoy having lots to do and see including some beautiful golf courses, the hotel’s private 1km beach as well as nearby Antalya. You need look no further than Titanic Deluxe for your next luxury golf break.

The best golfing destinations for Gastronomy

This week’s blog is on the top golfing destinations for gastronomy. These cities and even countries on the list provide opportunities for you to experience the best cuisine when visiting. We hope that those of you who are keen golfers and ‘foodies’ will enjoy this blog and get some ideas about where to go for your next golf break where you can experience some world-class golf (and amazing food!).

PGA-Catalunya

First up, is Girona. Girona is a medieval city situated on the Costa Brava and is still fairly untouched by the effects of tourism. This city is perfect for experiencing true Spanish culture and history whilst being able to enjoy some superb restaurants and cafés. This city is made of two parts: the old city and the new city. From the vast Gothic cathedral to the remains of the Força Vella fortress and other medieval architecture in the old city to the vibrant nightlife scene centers on the n the Plaça de la Independència and Plaça de Sant Feliu in the newer area of the city. Not only is there plenty to do and see in Girona but the restaurants in the city are widely known for their traditional Catalan dishes and with hundreds of restaurants to choose from it could never be difficult to get a sample of the wonderful food that this city is known for. Of course, the food is fantastic here but what makes this destination perfect is the superb golf that is nearby. PGA Catalunya resort is very close to Girona and features two fantastic courses, one of which – the Stadium course – is in the top 50 golf course in Spain. With a world-class golfing resort around the corner as well as other great golf courses in close proximity this is a great location with some traditional Spanish food, culture and history to be enjoyed too.

Girona

Up next on the list is Portugal’s coastal capital city, Lisbon. Lisbon is a fantastically cultural experience where there are often many festivals and events on throughout the year and is somewhere you can truly experience some of what traditional Portugal is like. Staying in Lisbon means that you can spend time appreciating the historical monuments and rich culture of this buzzing capital city whilst experiencing some traditional Portuguese food which is often a vast array of fresh fish including clams, lobsters shrimp and shellfish. In the city you can experience the traditional Fado music as well as their ancient architecture and not forgetting the many cafés and restaurants you can visit to enjoy the fresh fish and other Portuguese favourites. Asides from the fish there are several dishes you must try when in Lisbon including Pasteis de Belem which are a kind of custard tart and Caldo Verde which is a broth mix of vegetables and sometimes sausage. Lisbon is the perfect destination for golfing as well as food as there are several resorts within an hour’s drive in most directions from the capital. Nearby you have the Aroeira I and II courses which are superb courses and a little further afield you can enjoy the coast side resorts of Cascais and Estoril. A golf break to Lisbon should be on any keen golfer’s bucket list for sure.

Lisbon

Dubai is the next destination on the list for great golfing destinations for gastronomy and it isn’t hard to see why. There are many different areas and more specific destinations to choose from in Dubai but they all offer fantastic cuisine. Dubai is the best place for you to get the chance to sample all kinds of Gulf and Middle Eastern cuisine and there are a number of dishes that you must try when on your next holiday to Dubai. From dishes you may recognise but have never experienced in their true glory like hummus and falafel to those which you most likely will not have even heard of before such as al harees and esh asarya. It is definitely important to travel here with an open-mind about what food you will try or you may be put off by some of the more exotic dishes! Aside from the brilliant food on offer there are several prestigious golf developments in Dubai such as Faldo, Montgomerie, Els and Tiger which all have world-class golf courses and hotels to match! This is another perfect destination for your next golf break away where you can experience some fabulous food and world-class golf.

Dubai

Last, but not least on the list is South Africa. South Africa is divided into provinces which each offer their own different attractions and culture but they are mainly united in terms of the great cuisine that is served here. Whether you choose to board the Rovos Rail on a nine-day long adventure through South Africa or stay in a hotel you will get to experience a range of fantastic and exclusive golf courses as well as some wonderful food and drink. There are certain dishes you have to try when in South Africa such as boerewors which is a type of sausage and bobotie which is a type of minced meat in spices. Not only do the South Africans pride themselves on their food but also on the wines that you can enjoy with the food. Any authentic South African meal will be a journey for your taste buds and must be accompanied by a fine South African wine for sure. Whilst South Africa is an amazing experience and has some beautiful sights to enjoy as well as nature reserves and sandy beaches it is important not to forget the incredible golf that is on offer here. Playing golf here is something else, the views are simply spectacular and the courses immaculate and very exclusive. With each of the provinces boasting some superb courses it would be a difficult choice to choose which province attracts you the most! This is another ideal location for a golf escape and one where you can enjoy the finer things in life.

South-Africa

We hope that this blog has opened your eyes to these destinations and what they have to offer (mainly in terms of food!). These destinations all make a perfect golf break away and are places that you can soak up the traditional culture, golf and food that is all at your fingertips.

Review of the Orizonte golf course collection

The Orizonte Golf collection of courses is a brilliant group of courses in the Lisbon region in Portugal. This week’s blog is a guide to these Orizonte courses and will show you why, on your next trip to the Lisbon area, these courses are a must-play on your itinerary.

Divider

First up is Quinta do Peru which is one of the most exclusive golf courses in the area but tee-times are still available if you book far enough in advance. The course is set in a pine forest with the Arrabida Mountains as a backdrop. The course its self is set out over a high, undulating plateau which means that there are some superb views to be enjoyed when you can see over the treetops. Although this course may not be described as the most challenging, it is a great one to play for a relaxing holiday-style round but there are still the American-style bunkers and the occasional water hazards which you still need to look out for! The front nine holes are great, but the back nine are superb with a great set of finishing holes to end the round with. Both the 8th and the 16th holes are played across large lakes to well-guarded greens making them potentially the hardest holes on the course. This is a great, enjoyable course for those of all handicaps for sure.

Quinta-do-Peru

Aroeira I is next up on the list and has been claimed to be one of the finest courses in Europe. The course travels through a pine forest along undulating fairways and prides itself on the array of different holes that you will come face to face with. This course is a tricky one due to its setting with the many pine trees often obstructing the path of play but a noticeable fact about this course is that there are no bunkers on the fairways trying to catch errant balls. The 11th hole is one of the shining stars of the course as you have to avoid water which cuts into the left of the green on your approach shot before tackling the stretch of fairway (avoiding the pines) to the green. You then have to avoid the same water hazard in the fun par-3 14th hole too. This is another superb course by Orizonte golf and this unique array of holes can provide you with an unforgettable round of golf.

Aroeira-I

Next up is the (younger) sibling of Aroeira I – Aroeira II. This course was built to European Tour recommendations to potentially host some major tournaments. This course has a superb layout like its sister course and you have to navigate carefully through heavily wooded and gently undulating terrain to reach the well-guarded greens. The holes are long here and cleverly shaped using the natural landscape and bunkers. A stand out hole is the par 5 4th hole where a large stand of pine trees about 100 yards short of the green need to be overcome in order to reach the centre of the green. This course also has a spectacular few finishing holes which will make you wish that the round wasn’t ending. The 18th hole is a par 5 with water up the right of the fairway and stretching into the left of the finishing green. Don’t come to Aroeira and only play the first course – this is also a spectacular course and one which you will come to love.

Aroeira-II

Ribagolfe I is another great Orizonte course, this is a magnificent course and the Ribagolfe complex is arguably one of the best on the Iberian Peninsula and is definitely the best value. Although the course measures 7,370 yards from the back tees, the course is very playable for those with slightly higher handicaps from the front tees. Water hazards come into play a few times throughout the back nine of the course. Each of the holes are memorable in their own way and its landscape is simply stunning – a must play. One of the best, and the shortest hole on the course is the par 3 15th hole where water sits to the left of a raised green that’s surrounded by bunkers making it tricky to even get your ball on to the green without it being caught! Although the Ribagolfe complex is not in the best location accessibility wise it is definitely recommended that you play at least one round here and you won’t regret it.

Ribagolfe-I

Ribagolfe II is the sister course and makes up the other 18-holes of Ribagolfe’s 36-hole complex. This course is also routed through stands of cork oak and has beautiful surroundings. This is a shorter course, with more open fairways which lead to large greens and water hazards are less prominent on this course. Where water does come into play it really completes the holes. The best is the long par 5 13th hole where the same stream slices through the fairway into a small lake which is set to the right of the hole. The 3rd hole is definitely one to look out for as it is a long par 3 where trees block part of the route to the green on the right-hand side of the fairway which means that you need a lot of concentration to keep your shots on course! This is a superb course and a perfect partner for Ribagolfe I – these two courses are certainly not to be missed out on.

Ribagolfe-II

Last, but certainly not least on the list is Santo Estevao which is in the same area as the Ribagolfe complex. This course is suited to those who have a higher handicap as there is more room for error with the wider fairways and the bigger greens. This is a great, fun course which is perfect for those looking for a light round with some great views and can be used as preparation to play one of the harder courses in the area – perhaps Ribagolfe? This is another superb Orizonte golf course and is well worth the trip to play.

Santa-Estevao

We hope that this week’s blog opened your eyes to the great courses that you should have on your list to play when you are next taking a golf holiday to the Lisbon area!

The insider’s guide to Emporda Golf…

This week’s blog is an insiders guide to Emporda Golf. This hotel and its surrounding area is perfect for your next golf escape to the Costa Brava as it really has everything – location, great golf and great amenities and service for you to enjoy. This blog will tell you all you need to know about staying at Doubletree by Hilton Golf & Spa Emporda as well as the superb golf courses which are on-site for you to enjoy on your next golf break to the Costa Brava!

1

The Doubletree hotel is a small and modern hotel set in the grounds of two fantastic golf courses: Emporda Forest and Emporda Links. All the rooms are decorated in a modern, contemporary style and have their own private balconies as well as free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV and an Mp3 docking station. Although this is a fairly small hotel, it has a lovely restaurant serving traditional Catalan dishes as well as a cocktail lounge for you to enjoy a lovely post-round cocktail or beer and maybe an aperitif before dinner!

2

You can also enjoy the seasonal outdoor pool and the spa (for a small extra charge) where you can enjoy a range of different treatments, a Turkish bath, a sauna and a hot tub as well as a fitness centre. Not only does this hotel have two beautiful golf courses and an outdoor pool for you to enjoy but it is also in a fantastic location with several different towns and areas for you to visit and just under 2 miles from the lovely L’Estartit beach. The L’Estartit beach is 5km of golden sand with the beachside town at the end of the beach where you can enjoy an array of shops, bars and restaurants or even hire out equipment for watersports. Although the beach is often quite busy during the summertime, if you walk a little down towards the River Ter you can often have an area all to yourself.

3

Just a 15-minute drive away from the hotel are the lively and fun beach resorts of Pals and L’Estartit where you can enjoy a wide array of different bars and restaurants as well as vibrant nightlife. But, on the other hand, if you’re looking for a more charming town with history and culture as well as bars and restaurants for you to enjoy then just a few minutes’ drive from the hotel is the lovely old town of Toroella de Montgri and you certainly won’t be disappointed here. Here you can go scuba diving, visit the castle, enjoy a walk round the old town and experience some old culture and admire the old buildings or enjoy one of the many restaurants which serve everything from fresh fish to tapas to traditional Catalan dishes.

4

The Emporda Forest course is a superb course which looks a little average until you get the chance to play a round or two here. With fairways winding in and out of pine trees, strategically placed bunkers and a sprinkling of water throughout the course this is a must-play venue and is one of the most popular courses with the Golf Escapes clients. This is a tough and long course (especially off the back tees) and can prove to be a real challenge for golfers of all abilities. As early as the 2nd hole you are rewarded with a quality hole which is a mid-range par 3 with some strategically placed bunkering on the right. From the 3rd hole up to and including the 5th you play through the pine tree lined, narrow fairways. The 6th hole is one of the best holes that you may get the chance to play and is a great and short par 4 which is a great risk-reward hole where you have to decide right from the tee which line of play you are going to take. The back nine holes are all fabulous holes and close with the 18th which is a par 5 with plenty of water in play and just to make it trickier – 10 bunkers which surround the green!

5

Just like its sister course, the Emporda Links course is a long and difficult course with some superb holes that you can enjoy. Unlike the Forest course, the fairways are wide but this doesn’t mean that they are slow by any stretch of the imagination. The course certainly requires precise shot-making in order to score well with rolling bunkers, two large lakes and dunes which fit into the stunning Mediterranean landscape which means that no matter how low your handicap you need to have a lot of concentration! This course is modelled on the classic Links courses that you may find in Ireland or Scotland and the designers here have done a great job of keeping the course in-tune with its surroundings. The Links course also features a great deal of water hazards as well so make sure that you have packed a few extra balls when you are planning on playing either of these courses. The 2nd and 11th holes are often the favourites of the course where you can expect a challenge with some stunning views thrown in. These two golf courses are just another reason why this resort is perfect for your next stay and play golf break to the Costa Brava.7

We hope that this blog opened your eyes to the great golf, restaurants, bars, beaches and towns that are awaiting you if you choose Doubletree Hotel for your next golf holiday to the Costa Brava. This really is an ideal hotel in an ideal location with some ideal golf and scenery to top it all off.
