Insider’s Guide to La Manga Club

This week’s blog focuses on the famous La Manga Club resort, and also takes the opportunity to look at the 5-star Principe Felipe Hotel and the 4-star Las Lomas Village packages that are very popular with Golf Escapes clients. La Manga Club is an ideal resort for groups, offering a host of leisure, sports social and dining options to fill your day and night coupled with some superb packages available for all year round! Our packages include offers such as the “one free in eight” deal, plus Early Booking Discounts and other value adds so for value for money this is an excellent option.

If you want some quality during your stay then Hotel Principe Felipe is a modern and comfortable five-star hotel built in traditional Andalucian style with a wide range of facilities and of course direct access to the three brilliant golf courses on-site. The hotel is situated in the centre of La Manga Club which makes it the perfect destination for anyone who wants to be able to access all the facilities of this vast resort very easily. This includes the 28 court tennis centre, impressive spa facilities but especially the many bars and resturants. You will never be short of somewhere to enjoy a brilliant meal or a few drinks when staying here as there are restaurants serving all different types of cuisine from Mediterranean food to Asian cuisine, or Italian and Indian foods options. At the hotel, all of the guestrooms feature a TV as well as a private balcony which boasts scenic views of the pool or the golf course.Principe-Felipe

If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to the 5-star option but you still want all that La Manga Club has to offer than we suggest you take a look at Las Lomas Village. Packages here offer full acess to the golf and other facilities but are easier on the pocket and represent great value. Overlooking the North course, here you can also enjoy time relaxing by the pools, at the Club’s private cove or at the spa when you are not enjoying a round on one of the three golf courses here. Within driving distance, there are the beautiful unspolit beaches of Calbanque or the delights of the Mar Menor where there are is also a wide range of watersports available.Las-Lomas-Village

However, despite all this, for golfers the main attraction will always be the three 18-hole courses on-site and we start with the championship South course. This course is a stern test of golf, but the fairways are quite forgiving so don’t be afraid to open the shoulders. Although the fairways are wide, there are only a few holes which don’t feature some form of water hazard and there are many strategically placed bunkers ready and waiting to catch any errant shots! The course features a wide variety of different holes varying in length and difficulty from terrific par fives to short par threes and the 14th hole presents one of the largest sand traps in Spain with almost the entire length of the fairway on the right-hand side being bunkered.  The 18th is considered to be the signature hole where the tee shot is tough and with your initial shot you will find it difficult to avoid the many water and sand hazards and then to add to the challenge the green is well protected with bunkers. This course is a beautifully honest test of golf and the course demands some accurate shots in order for you to score near to your handicap, especially when the warm wind is against you! The greens are fast but this is a very fun and relaxed course – a perfect addition to your golf escape.South-Course

Next, we have the North course. This course was refurbished again recently and is very different to its sister South course, with the two meeting on several occasions during the 18 holes, it is much shorter and hillier. In order to score well on this course you cannot afford to lose concentration throughout the round as between holes 13 and 17 there are half a dozen ponds waiting to catch any errant shots late in the round. Out of the three courses at La Manga Club, the North course is possibly the easiest but that doesn’t mean that it is to be taken lightly, when the sun is shining (which is almost always is) the originally short par 3s seem long and the palm trees are there, lining the fairways, waiting to catch any wayward shot sent off course by the wind. Although this is a perfect course to play whilst you are on holiday or have a slightly higher handicap, there are also many challenging holes along the way such as the par three 4th hole with out-of-bounds to the left and a magnetic hazard on the right! This is a well-kept, scenic holiday course with large greens, lush fairways and lovely surroundings – definitely one not to be missed out on! Both the South and the North courses here at La Manga can be access straight from Principe Felipe Hotel being just a few steps away from the entrance to the hotel which means that no travelling or fuss is necessary to find a great golf course when you are staying here!North-Course

Last, but certainly not least, is the West course. This course is a 4-minute free shuttle away from the Principe Felipe Hotel and Las Lomas Village which means it is still easier than most to access! This course, although known as some as the Wild West due to the location in the hills, is beautiful with well-manicured fairways and spectacular scenery for you to enjoy throughout the round. Each of the holes here seems to be different and each one presents you with a different challenge whether you are a seasoned golfer or one with a higher handicap! The first nine holes are easier, and slightly less inviting than the back nine but they could not be described as easy with the 3rd hole presenting you with a challenging tee shot as well as a hidden green. Then you have the 9th hole challenging you to take on an uphill tee shot before you wind down to the protected green behind a ravine and in front of a large lake! Throughout the back nine holes you are up and down the mountains playing the difficult 12th hole and then the even more challenging par three 13th which although is a beautiful hole, will not look so beautiful on your scorecard! No one could question the signature hole after you have played the 18th, the tee is at the top of a small mountain overlooking the fairway and beyond across La Manga, the countryside and the sea – this is a superb finishing hole and you can only understand why once you have taken it on. This course is a fabulous addition to the two other La Manga Club courses and completes this as perhaps the perfect destination.West-Course

Travelling to La Manga is also very easy, Murcia (MJV) airport is just 20 minutes’ drive away and is a small airport which means that there are no long queues or walks and despite the fact that it is a small airport, plenty of airlines from the UK fly into there so La Manga Club is very accessible! There is also the option of Alicante (ALC) airport, just over an hour away, this airport is one of the busiest in Spain with a large number of UK flights landing daily. Footer

We hope that you enjoyed this blog and will be considering taking your next golf break to La Manga Club as it really does offer everything that you could possibly need or want, and is much more than just a golf resort. With recent investment, this resort is just getting better and better and so contact us to find out more and see for yourselves what the fuss is about.

Bonalba golf course is a great and challenging course with some spectacular views of both the ocean and the mountains in the surrounding areas. The fairways are wide and open but there are many strategically placed water hazards and bunkers for you to overcome before you reach the greens. The first 12 holes are shorter than the last 6 and they are all very technical holes but when you reach the last few holes the course opens up and you have to contend with the sea breeze!

Las Colinas Residences are situated right in the heart of the fabulous 18-hole championship Las Colinas golf course. These apartments offer a fantastic self-catering option which is perfect when you enjoy eating out and being flexible. The apartments are all fully furnished with a well-equipped kitchen, satellite TV, air-conditioning and a large terrace attached to each. You also have easy access to outdoor swimming pools, two restaurants and a beach club – everything you could need on your next golf break! If you’re less into golf but still into activities then you can enjoy tennis, paddle tennis or the gym. las-colinas-residences

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club is consistently ranked as one of the top courses in this region and it isn’t hard to see why. Although most of the fairways are wide and fairly forgiving, the approaches to the greens are often lined with bunkers and lakes which will always catch your errant shots! This course features a wide variety of different holes from short par-3s to dogleg par-5s which will offer you an interesting and challenging round of golf.

Hotel Alicante Golf is another fantastic four-star hotel which is situated in an ideal location. The hotel is just 20-minutes’ drive from Alicante airport, 5 miles from the centre of Alicante and only a 10-minutes’ walk from the beach. Each of the rooms are spacious, with air-conditioning, a minibar and a safe. Being so close to Alicante centre means that you are so close to so many fantastic places to eat and drink but if you prefer to stay in the hotel then the Augusta Restaurant serves delicious Mediterranean food which you can enjoy whilst looking out onto the golf course! Enjoy relaxing on the beach, by the outdoor pool or by the indoor pool and sauna area after a fantastic round of golf on the course which you don’t even need to travel to get to. This is a superb location for your next golf holiday to Alicante and one not to be missed out on.

hotel-alicante-golf

Alicante Golf course is another perfect mix of par-3s, 4s and 5s with six of each on this course! This course is regarded as one of the best designed courses in the region and it really isn’t hard to see why when you see the layout of the course and how diverse each hole is. This is a lovely course to play but it is a tricky one and you have to think out your plan for each hole strategically before teeing off. Another great course in the Alicante region which must be played by any keen golfer.

alicante-golf-resort

Last, but not least is the five-star Denia Mariott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa which is one of the most luxurious resorts in the area. The hotel is set within the 27-hole golf course and also the Montgo National Park so the scenery and setting of the resort is simply beautiful. All of the rooms are decorated with a classic theme and have marble bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV and many either have a balcony or terrace that you can enjoy the stunning surroundings of the hotel from. The resort is just 15-minutes’ drive from Denia and the beaches there but if you want to stay at the resort there are plenty of lovely places to relax in like the spa area with its saunas, Turkish bath and outdoor hot tub or the outdoor pool area. All of this as well as several restaurants and bars to enjoy makes this the perfect destination for your next luxury golf break.

denia-marriott-la-sella-golf-resort

La Sella Golf Course comprises of three loops of nine holes but all three loops have something that they are known for. The Llebeig loop is known its beautiful views of the national park, the Gregal is known for being a flatter nine holes than the other two loops but that doesn’t make it an easy loop with its many water hazards obstructing play! The Mestral loop boasts wider fairways and large greens where you can enjoy the nature that surrounds the loop.

These are just four of the lovely hotels and their golf courses that you can enjoy when you book a golf holiday to Alicante and we hope that these have shown you what you are missing! Alicante is also well-known for year-round good weather (unlike the UK!) so there is nothing stopping you from booking your next golf break to the sun now!

Insider’s guide to Oliva Nova…

This week’s blog is an insider’s guide to Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort in Valencia. Whether you’re thinking of booking a last minute golfing getaway somewhere warm and sunny or just considering your options for your next holiday then this is a perfect hotel for you to look at.

4

The four-star Oliva Nova is situated in a beautiful location in Valencia and has all the amenities you would expect of a hotel of this rating. The rooms are large and decorated elegantly, each of the rooms has a seating area, a flat screen TV as well as a terrace or balcony which you can look out onto the complex, the dunes and the Montgo Mountains from. The hotel’s restaurant serves classic Valencian dishes which you are sure to enjoy and there are several bars for you to enjoy a few drinks in! Asides from the hotel’s main restaurant you can also enjoy an Irish pub or the beach bar. Of course, as the hotel is located between the two towns of Oliva and Denia you can easily leave the hotel if you want to try some different restaurants and bars. If you prefer to relax rather than play golf or enjoy the other activities that you can here, like tennis and football, then the hotel’s beautiful spa area will be perfect for you. In the spa area there is an indoor pool with two waterfalls, a jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna and a Turkish Bath – everything you could ever want for the perfect relaxation experience! You can also enjoy a range of different treatments in the aromatic beauty rooms. After a round of golf there is nothing better than relaxing by the lagoon style swimming pool or on the Oliva Nova Beach which all guests have direct access to. This is an ideal hotel in a perfect location and just 45 minutes’ drive from Valencia making it a perfect destination for your next golf break to Spain.

2

Oliva Nova Golf Club course is a par-72 links course which stretches across over 50 hectares. The course has an exceptional location and backdrop which makes it one of the top golf courses in the Valencia area. The course has slightly undulating greens as well as many tight doglegs which makes this course a tight and challenging one. To further add to the challenge there are water hazards on 15 out of 18 holes which can prove a test to even the golfers with the lowest handicaps! With only 3 holes being free from water hazards make sure to bring a few extra balls for any wayward shots. As the course is fairly close to the coast, on a breezy day this course can certainly present a strong challenge for any golfer and you must always hit the most accurate of shots to score close to your handicap. With flora and fauna, majestic palm trees and stunning lakes positioned around the course there is no denying that this is a truly picturesque course where you can enjoy stunning scenery with some fantastic golf. A bonus for playing this course is that although the fairways are slightly undulating, the course is mainly fairly flat which means that it is a pleasure to walk and you won’t have the added expense of a golf buggy. The Oliva Nova Golf Club also boasts a stunning club house which features panoramic views of the course and is somewhere that you can enjoy a post-round drink or meal whilst looking out onto the fairways. There is also a pitch & putt 5 hole course which is where you can practice your short game as well as a putting green where you can practice getting out of bunkers! This is a stunning golf course and one that is quite possibly one of the best in the Costa Blanca region and is certainly not one to be passed up on!

1

As the resort is situated between two lovely Spanish towns it is possible for you to get out of the resort and enjoy eating and drinking elsewhere as well as soaking up some of the culture. Oliva is a very quiet village with a few restaurants and bars that you can enjoy as well as some great nightlife which is down by the beach. The old town is very beautiful but very hilly so make sure you take some sensible shoes if you’re going to go exploring! There are also some beautiful historical churches for you to admire. Down by the beach there are a few cafes and restaurants and the beach is not crowded for most parts of the year which makes it a perfect place to relax and explore!

3

Denia is a cosmopolitan town which offers a wide range of activities from water sports on the beach to mountain climbing, biking and hiking. Along the marina you can find a modern commercial area with plenty of bars and restaurants for you to enjoy. This is another lovely town just on your doorstep when you are staying at the Oliva Nova resort.

6

We hope that this week’s blog has inspired your next golf holiday to Spain and that you can see the great holiday that could be lying in front of you if you choose to take a break to the Oliva Nova resort where you can experience a fantastic beach, a wonderful golf course and two beautiful coastal towns all in one holiday.

Insider’s guide to La Cala

This week’s blog is an insider’s guide to La Cala Golf Resort, with the British summer still suffering a stuttering start we thought it a good idea to give you a guide to a great resort which is just a short flight away, but where the sun and summer time is in full flow, and of course there is some superb golf.

box - La Cala Golf Resort

This premier golf resort on the Costa del Sol features beautiful rooms decorated with an Andalucian style, three fantastic golf courses, an outdoor swimming pool and a lovely spa area. All of the rooms are fully furnished and fitted with a satellite TV and air conditioning. You can enjoy the stunning views of the golf courses and your surroundings from your room’s private balcony as well. At the hotel, you can enjoy the hotel’s restaurant which serves both local and international cuisine and enjoy a few drinks in the lobby bar or venture over to the clubhouse to the bar there. If you’re more into relaxation than golfing then you won’t be disappointed here either, the spa features hydrotherapy pools, a Turkish bath and a sauna. You can also enjoy a range of different treatments from massages to facials in the treatment rooms here. The hotel is fantastic and offers great facilities but it is also in a prime location, with the busy coastal town of La Cala de Mijas just under 10 minutes’ away! In the town you can enjoy a wide array of different bars – where you can get a pint for a lot less than at home – and some fantastic restaurants serving different cuisines ranging from fresh local fish to international dishes. This also means that your nearest beach is just under 10 minutes’ away which is perfect if you fancy a long afternoon by the sea before heading for a few pints at a beach bar after your morning on the golf course.

box - La Cala Golf Resort 2

This hotel is ideal for those wanting to enjoy a variety of different courses on this golf break as there are three courses on the same site as the hotel which means that you won’t have to travel far to get in a good round or two of golf!

Box - La Cala America

La Cala America (previously known as the North course here) is one of the most requested courses to play here on the Costa del Sol and it really isn’t hard to see why. This course is a spectacularly hilly course where straight hitting is a must if you hope to score even close to your handicap. There are many strategically placed crushed-marble bunkers which make your challenge of navigating the elevated and undulating greens whilst simultaneously avoiding the gorges that line the fairways! Even from the 1st hole which is a cliff-driving hole right from the tee you can experience the quality of this course and its stunning surroundings.  The views from this course are simply beautiful and many consider the course’s best hole to be the par-3 16th hole where from the elevated tee you can enjoy views right across the property to beyond the tee and to the coast which is actually several miles away from the tee. This is certainly a course to play when you have your concentration cap and when you have brought along a few extra balls!

Box - La Cala Asia

La Cala Asia (previously known as the South course here) is another one of the great three golf courses located in the foothills of the Mijas Mountains. This course has a similar landscape to that of the America course in terms of the fact that it is hilly with strategically placed greenside bunkers but it is slightly flatter and easier than the America course for sure! You must negotiate this course carefully and try to hit your tee shot to the right spot, especially on the par-4s and par-5s as there is very little room for error. Three of the holes here are short holes which are played from elevated greens so offer some fantastic views of the property and beyond. The 2nd hole has a well-protected, two-tiered, L-shaped green which certainly causes for an interesting finish to the hole and this is just the first difficult and short hole on this course! the 8th and the 12th holes are also very difficult with the 8th hole sitting in a valley surrounded by sand traps and grass hollows and with the 12th having a pear-shaped putting surface with a swale running through the middle. A stand-out hole on this course is the par-4 15th hole which doglegs to the left around 250yards down which means that you need to position your tee shot to aim up the right side but either hit a long one or take the dogleg with two shorter shots. This is another great course which you will enjoy immensely here at La Cala.

Box - La Cala Europa

La Cala Europa course enjoys spectacular, far-reaching mountain views and has a layout which is far less quirky than the other two courses here. Although there are some fine stretches of holes which are demanding, this course is far more playable than the Asia and America courses. This course is situated in a lovely part of the countryside near the hotel and has tight and twisting fairways as well as a winding river running through the course, it is a very picturesque course but you have to make sure to not be distracted by the scenery as this is certainly not an easy one – especially for those with a high handicap. The standout hole on this course is the par-4 4th hole which is one of the strongest par-4s that you will ever play. With the river running alongside the left of the fairway and the mountain scrub guarding the right side this tee-shot has to land on a very narrow fairway, you then have to hit your ball back over the river to the well-guarded green which is protected by the bunkering to typical of the La Cala courses. This is a stern test of golf to match the other two courses here at La Cala and you would never regret a round on these courses!

We hope that this blog opened your eyes to the great golf break away you could have to the Costa del Sol here at La Cala Golf Resort. With three fantastic golf courses on-site, a beautiful and busy little coastal town so nearby and being just 35 minutes’ drive from Malaga airport there is little that could make this place any better! Oh, and of course you will be able to enjoy some proper summer weather there…

The insider’s guide to Emporda Golf…

This week’s blog is an insiders guide to Emporda Golf. This hotel and its surrounding area is perfect for your next golf escape to the Costa Brava as it really has everything – location, great golf and great amenities and service for you to enjoy. This blog will tell you all you need to know about staying at Doubletree by Hilton Golf & Spa Emporda as well as the superb golf courses which are on-site for you to enjoy on your next golf break to the Costa Brava!

1

The Doubletree hotel is a small and modern hotel set in the grounds of two fantastic golf courses: Emporda Forest and Emporda Links. All the rooms are decorated in a modern, contemporary style and have their own private balconies as well as free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV and an Mp3 docking station. Although this is a fairly small hotel, it has a lovely restaurant serving traditional Catalan dishes as well as a cocktail lounge for you to enjoy a lovely post-round cocktail or beer and maybe an aperitif before dinner!

2

You can also enjoy the seasonal outdoor pool and the spa (for a small extra charge) where you can enjoy a range of different treatments, a Turkish bath, a sauna and a hot tub as well as a fitness centre. Not only does this hotel have two beautiful golf courses and an outdoor pool for you to enjoy but it is also in a fantastic location with several different towns and areas for you to visit and just under 2 miles from the lovely L’Estartit beach. The L’Estartit beach is 5km of golden sand with the beachside town at the end of the beach where you can enjoy an array of shops, bars and restaurants or even hire out equipment for watersports. Although the beach is often quite busy during the summertime, if you walk a little down towards the River Ter you can often have an area all to yourself.

3

Just a 15-minute drive away from the hotel are the lively and fun beach resorts of Pals and L’Estartit where you can enjoy a wide array of different bars and restaurants as well as vibrant nightlife. But, on the other hand, if you’re looking for a more charming town with history and culture as well as bars and restaurants for you to enjoy then just a few minutes’ drive from the hotel is the lovely old town of Toroella de Montgri and you certainly won’t be disappointed here. Here you can go scuba diving, visit the castle, enjoy a walk round the old town and experience some old culture and admire the old buildings or enjoy one of the many restaurants which serve everything from fresh fish to tapas to traditional Catalan dishes.

4

The Emporda Forest course is a superb course which looks a little average until you get the chance to play a round or two here. With fairways winding in and out of pine trees, strategically placed bunkers and a sprinkling of water throughout the course this is a must-play venue and is one of the most popular courses with the Golf Escapes clients. This is a tough and long course (especially off the back tees) and can prove to be a real challenge for golfers of all abilities. As early as the 2nd hole you are rewarded with a quality hole which is a mid-range par 3 with some strategically placed bunkering on the right. From the 3rd hole up to and including the 5th you play through the pine tree lined, narrow fairways. The 6th hole is one of the best holes that you may get the chance to play and is a great and short par 4 which is a great risk-reward hole where you have to decide right from the tee which line of play you are going to take. The back nine holes are all fabulous holes and close with the 18th which is a par 5 with plenty of water in play and just to make it trickier – 10 bunkers which surround the green!

5

Just like its sister course, the Emporda Links course is a long and difficult course with some superb holes that you can enjoy. Unlike the Forest course, the fairways are wide but this doesn’t mean that they are slow by any stretch of the imagination. The course certainly requires precise shot-making in order to score well with rolling bunkers, two large lakes and dunes which fit into the stunning Mediterranean landscape which means that no matter how low your handicap you need to have a lot of concentration! This course is modelled on the classic Links courses that you may find in Ireland or Scotland and the designers here have done a great job of keeping the course in-tune with its surroundings. The Links course also features a great deal of water hazards as well so make sure that you have packed a few extra balls when you are planning on playing either of these courses. The 2nd and 11th holes are often the favourites of the course where you can expect a challenge with some stunning views thrown in. These two golf courses are just another reason why this resort is perfect for your next stay and play golf break to the Costa Brava.7

We hope that this blog opened your eyes to the great golf, restaurants, bars, beaches and towns that are awaiting you if you choose Doubletree Hotel for your next golf holiday to the Costa Brava. This really is an ideal hotel in an ideal location with some ideal golf and scenery to top it all off.

Insider’s guide to Huelva…

If you still haven’t booked this year’s golf break to a place in the sun then this blog is perfect for you. The Costa de la Luz, Huelva, is considered to be Spain’s very own version of Portugal’s stunning Algarve region and is not one that should be missed out on. With some spectacular golfing hotels and beautiful courses your insider’s guide to Huelva should just be the last thing you need to encourage you to book a fabulous golf holiday to this region.

HeaderImage

The region of Huelva is full of unspoilt natural beauty, interesting historical sites, wonderful golden beaches, great hotels and even better golf courses. The region is equidistance between both Faro airport and Seville airport making it easily accessible and we all know that less time travelling means more time holidaying! Huelva is an up and coming region in terms of the golfing opportunities with the already established Islantilla resort as well as Isla Canela and the new championship course at El Rompido. With more and more plans for new golfing opportunities here every year it is a perfect destination for your next golf holiday to sunny Spain.

Islantilla

Islantilla Golf Resort is a stunning four-star resort and offers everything there is to want when you’re looking for that perfect golfing break to Spain. With a great pool area as well as a fantastic beach club which features a pool, as well as opportunities for water sports, just a mile away from the resort there is no shortage of places to relax and enjoy the endless sun at the Islantilla resort. This lovely hotel is spacious and bright with all rooms featuring a lovely balcony or terrace on which they can enjoy the views of the gardens surrounding the hotel and, of course, the sunshine until late! The hotel also boasts a magnificent spa which features a lovely indoor and outdoor pool area as well as having a variety of different treatments on offer to help further your relaxation here. The hotel features four lovely restaurants serving a range of different cuisine for guests but if you would prefer, the commercial square with other restaurants, bars and a few shops is just a short walk away from the resort. This resort truly is a great one and should definitely be top of the list of considerations when planning your next golf holiday to the sunny region of Huelva.

IslantillaGolf

The Islantilla golf course opened in 1992 and has now become one of the most well-known and sought after course in Andalusia. Although the course is now 14 years old, playing it you would have no idea as the greens are in as immaculate conditions as ever and no-one could call this course tired or boring. This 27-hole parkland course has hosted a range of prestigious tournaments since its opening including the Spanish Masters in 1995. With three sets of nine holes, golfers can choose which loop to play meaning that they will always get from this course what they want to and there are several combinations to play! The Yellow course is considered to be the easiest nine holes here at Islantilla with the Blue/Green courses usually chosen to play by golfers looking for more of a challenge rather than a practice. The Blue nine holes are thought to be the toughest of the three sets with the first few holes rising and falling over hilly terrain before slightly levelling out to enjoy a great par-4 for the 4th hole with a large tree obscuring the putting surface making it a hole where accuracy is definitely key. With a variety of different holes from hilly with blind shots to undulating greens and hanging lies to the long but not especially difficult holes – Islantilla offers them all and is a great round from start to finish.

ElRompadomp

Something a little different in the Huelva region is the five-star luxury hotel El Rompido which is more than worthy of its five-star rating. The hotel is located virtually on top of the two fantastic 18-hole championship courses on the resort – El Rompido North and El Rompido South. The hotel features bright and nicely decorated rooms, most of which have stunning sea views or great views of the golf course and gardens surrounding this spectacular hotel. With great golf on offer, a lovely spa area, a traditional restaurant and bar and the city of Huelva just 10 miles away this is perfect for your next golf escape to Huelva. El Rompido South is a course broken into two sets of nine-holes. The first nine are tight holes where you need to be as accurate as you can in order to score well before the course opens up on the back nine with stunning views of the coast and plenty of open space and scenery to enjoy on this great round. The El Rompido North course can look as if it is not as stern of a challenge as it is due to its relative flatness across all of the holes. However, water comes in to play frequently and the fairways are bordered with pines waiting to catch errant shots. Both of these courses are picturesque and challenging – a perfect combination.

Isla-Canela

Another great place to stay and enjoy in Huelva is the Isla Canela Golf Hotel. This four-star hotel is modern and luxurious and is just a five minutes’ drive from Isla Canela as well as only a mile or so from the beach. With a traditional style restaurant, a Tapas bar and a café there is always somewhere to relax and eat at this hotel. The hotel also features a beautiful outdoor pool area as well as a fantastic golf course on site. The Isla Canela Golf course is a great course for golfers with a higher handicap as it is a more straightforward course but of course can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities. There are some beautiful views of the beach and the forests which are intermingled with some fantastic dog-leg holes and stunning greens. This course has little undulation so is perfect if you’re looking for a lovely course that you can walk and take in the scenery whilst playing an enjoyable round of golf. This is another perfect destination for your next golf break to Huelva.

We hope that this blog inspired your next golf holiday to Huelva (perhaps in 2016?) and that you realise the gems on offer in this beautiful region of Southern Spain.

Golf at Spain’s finest…

Often when you’ve decided on your destination for your next golfing trip you think about the exact courses you want to play or the hotel that you want to stay at. We think that is important to experience some of the finer things in life and so here is our list of the five finest courses in Spain.Valderrama

First on the list we have Real Club Valderrama situated in Sotogrande, which is not just the first course on our list but is first on another list; the top courses in Europe. It isn’t hard to see how Valderrama got that impressive reputation with its beautiful and tranquil surroundings. This course is always in perfect condition and although it may not be the cheapest green fee around you certainly get what you pay for here both in terms of service and the golf that is on offer here. The course provides a great test to the everyday golfer as well as those more accomplished golfers as the crosswinds add an element of difficulty as well as strategically placed bunkers and fast greens – making it a perfect course in every way! Many golfers say that this is the most spectacular course they have ever played and so it isn’t really hard to see why this course is first up on our list of the finest courses in Spain.

Valderrama

Finca-Cortesin

Next up on the list of Spain’s finest courses, we have the course at the Finca Cortesin golf club which is located on the Costa del Sol. This course is on of Europe’s longest layouts at 6.802 metres and is known for its beautiful and tranquil surroundings which include natural vegetation and views which stretch as far as the Estepona mountains. Aside from the surroundings, this course is a challenging one and can be extremely tricky with fast, rolling greens and with the inevitable high sea winds this is a challenging course even for the most experienced golfer. However, the course does offer five different tee options and so those who are less experienced are still catered for at this stunning course. This course has been described as the epitome of class; guests are met by staff and led to their named buggies before starting their round. All the facilities are in excellent condition and the treatment received is impeccable. As well as Valderrama this course also has expensive green fees but it is well worth the extra money in order to receive this first class treatment and be able to play on this great course.

Finca Cortesin, 6+5+3

La-Reserva

Third on our list is another Sotogrande favourite – La Reserva. This course is the longest course on the Costa del Sol with 6721 metres of rolling greenery. With views of the glistening Mediterranean alongside you and in front of you for almost the entire course this truly is one of the finest courses that Spain has to offer. With water presenting itself on six of the holes and many risk/reward shots have to be taken in order to succeed on this course making it a fun and challenging course for golfers of all abilities. The back nine holes are worth coming to play this course alone as they make you climb onto higher ground giving you the access to some tremendous views and great tee shots. This course is in spectacular condition and everything about it is majestic including its lovely staff and stunning clubhouse meaning that it is easily classed as one of the finest courses around. With Valderrama as one of La Reserva’s neighbours if you’re looking to play some of the finest courses in Spain then you know which area to come to on your next golfing holiday.La Reserva

Sotogrande

Real Club Sotogrande golf course is the fourth course on this list. This course is a private members course but it is still worth trying to get tee times here to experience the beauty of this course. Real Club Sotogrande was opened in 1964 and even after 40 years is still regarded as one of the top 10 courses in the whole of Europe which shows how well this course has survived the test of time. This course has many strategically placed bunkers and water hazards making it a challenge even to the most discerning golfer and means that a lot of effort and thinking are required in order to score well on the course and avoid these hazards. Just 150 metres from the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and with a careful layout designed to integrate the natural area with a fantastic golf course it is no surprise that this course has made the list of Spain’s finest courses.

Sotogrande

San-Roque

Last on the list are the courses at San Roque Golf Club. The two courses there are as challenging as they are beautiful and although both courses are very different they both offer a fabulous round at one of the finest golf clubs on the Costa del Sol. The Old Course is the club’s pride and joy; it is rated among the top five courses in Spain as well as one of the best in the whole of Europe. With large fairways and narrow greens which undulate gently through forest-like surroundings as well as bunkers and water hazards this course is sure to make for an interesting round. Of course, along with any fine golf course there are some spectacular views and this course features beautiful ones of the mountains which are further inland making this not only an interesting round but a picturesque one as well. The new course at San Roque is by far the most challenging out of the two and so we suggest this course if you’re looking for a tough but enjoyable round. This course features many deep bunkers and the fairways are exceptionally narrow but to experience a fine round on this course is worth the potential poor score!
