Agadir is the leading seaside resort in Morocco and it certainly deserves its title, boasting a 10km-long beach of fine sand, more than 300 days of sunshine a year and some great golf courses, what more could you ask for!
Destroyed by the earthquake of 1960, the kasbah no longer has its crenellated ramparts. Nevertheless, this elevated site has a complete view of the bay, the port and the new town. It is enchanting at sundown, when the light is flecked with gold. The new Medina, just south of the city centre, was constructed in 1990, thankfully the Moroccan atmosphere and hospitality is still evident with a host of local restaurants, the jewellery souk and Moorish café are well worth a visit.
