Robert Trent Jones II has totally transformed Palmares, one of the Algarve’s original courses, into a course of breathtaking natural beauty which is a delight to play. There are now three loops of nine holes, Lagos, Alvor, and Praia, all with their own character. The Alvor golf course starts through pine tree-lined undulating fairways, then dunes / links style holes come into play before finishing in parkland. The Lagos maintains the same parkland and links characters, but also contains the only two water hazards. The Praia, as its name suggests, rolls down to the beach and is predominantly a classic links course. The third nine opened in June 2011, and all 27 holes have matured nicely making Palmares one of the area’s must-play courses.
