A excellent golf holiday destination and one of the favourite places in Portugal, Sesimbra manages to mix local traditions with tourist requirements perfectly. The focal point of the village is the long narrow sandy beach with hotels, restaurants, bars and shops all lining the road running adjacent to the coast. The welcome is warm here from the locals, most of who rely on tourists and fishing for their income. Sesimbra is one of the warmest spots on the Lisbon coast thanks to the surrounding hills blocking any cool northerly breezes.

There is a good choice of restaurants here; as always on the coast in Portugal, the fish is fresh and great value. The tourist restaurants tend to overlook the beach, but venture inland down the narrow cobbled streets and you will find some fantastic inexpensive local restaurants.

No nightclubs but some trendy late night bars can be found on the main street by the beach. Or you can sit on the wall overlooking the beach and just listen to the waves!
