Palheiro golf course is approximately a 10 minute drive from Funchal.

The course was designed by Cabell Robinson and opened in 1994. At lower altitude than Santo da Serra but in places just as spectacular, two thirds of Palheiro lies within pine forest and botanical woodland. The fairways are generous, and although not a long course, there are some difficult bunkers to negotiate, greens are raised and on the small side, and natural undulations are utilised to create a stern but fair test of golf. After the par five 18th you will no doubt enjoy a spot of après golf in the clubhouse overlooking the bay of Funchal!
