This week’s blog is a guide to eight of the best courses in for the UK for your next golf escape. For an unruly challenge, beautiful landscapes and a varied layout, any one of these golf courses will provide players with an unforgettable round of golf. Whether you are looking to enjoy a leisurely round of golf, or show off some of your best talents, then any one of these golf courses would be an unbeatable option for your next golf escape. For all those that do not want to deal with all of the costs and stresses associated with flying but still want to experience some of Europe’s best golf, then all eight of these golf courses would make a superb choice.

First up is the Castle Stuart Golf Links located in the heart of the stunning Scottish countryside. On this golf course, golfers could not be in a better position to enjoy some of the breath-taking views that the Scottish landscape is known so well for. Despite the golf course only being created in 2009, it has already established itself as one of the best golf courses in Scotland and it has helped set the standards for the creation of future golf courses in the area, making it an unbeatable choice for your next golf escape. If our recommendation is not enough to encourage you to book in a round of golf at the Castle Stuart Golf Links, an impressive four Scottish Opens have been hosted at the golf course, one of which was hosted in its first year of opening, so it is clear that the Castle Stuart Golf Links has not failed to make an incredible first impression for all those who attempt its unruly fairways. Throughout the golf course, players will struggle to not be distracted by the beautiful views spanning across the neighbouring Kessock Bridge and Chanonry Lighthouse, some of the Scottish Highland’s most eye-catching sights. Despite the immaculate conditions of the Castle Stuart Golf Links’ fairways and greens, the golf course has been incredibly adapted from the area’s natural landscape to create the spectacular golf course that stands today.

The Belfry is widely considered to be the UK’s centrepiece for golf, and with a round of golf on the Belfry Brabazon golf course, it is not difficult to see why. If the very fact that this golf course has hosted the Ryder Cup more than any other golf course does not persuade you to come and play it, then its unruly challenge will. Despite the golf course’s lengthy history and impressive golfing legacy, with recent renovations, the golf course plays to the same standard it did when it was originally created. With a unique layout, some tricky shots and plenty of challenges, golfers are encouraged to bring plenty of balls with them on their round. The Belfry Brabazon Course is undeniably one of the most challenging golf courses in the UK, meaning it is a great opportunity to show off some great talent should you succeed, or alternatively, golfers will have to face some slight embarrassment should they fail to manoeuvre around one of the many water hazards across the golf course. Golfers must anticipate a truly challenging round of golf here, as the bunkers are strategically placed in the best position to hinder a steady scorecard, and even the greens are unforgivingly fast, so there really is nowhere for golfers to try to redeem themselves should they slip up. To follow in the footsteps of some of the golfing world’s biggest names including Sam Torrance and Paul McGinley, then the Belfry Brabazon golf course is an unbeatable choice.

Located in the heart of the surrounding Portstewart Strand countryside next to the coast lies the Strand Course located at the Portstewart Golf Club. Since its opening in 1992, the golf course has steadily improved its reputation to now be recognised as one of Northern Ireland’s best golf courses, making it a superb option for your next golf escape in the UK. Golfers never fail to return to the Strand Course year after year to challenge its perfectly manicured greens and open fairways to enjoy an invigorating round of golf. Measuring to an impressive 7,000 yards, the Strand Course mostly welcomes the more experienced golfer to challenge its fairways. The Strand Course is the perfect choice for all golfers who are looking to test their skills while enjoying a fantastic round of golf. The layout is varied in its design, but the beautiful coastal views are consistent across the golf course. The front nine and back nine vary in their views; the front nine are positioned weaving in and out of huge dunes dominating the landscape, whereas the back nine are equally as challenging and offer even more dramatic views. No hole at the Strand Course are remotely similar in their features or layout, so golfers should expect to be kept on their toes consistently throughout their round. With some tight doglegs, the potential for a prevailing coastal wind and a varied layout, it comes as no surprise that the Strand Course at the Portstewart Golf Course is on the bucket list of so many golfers in the UK.

Yet another great golf course for your next golf break in Ireland is the Cork Golf Club, widely considered to be among one of the most breath-taking golf courses in Ireland. For an unruly test of golf where you are sure to find every aspect of your game challenged, then the Cork Golf Club is the perfect golf course for you. This championship golf course has accommodated for both major professional championships since its creation, as well as amateur competitions, meaning golfers of all skill sets and abilities will be accommodated for. The golf course is truly unique in its landscape and design as it has hints of a links golf course for all those players who favour an American-style golf course. Furthermore, holes six to ten are positioned in a historic limestone quarry, so it is imperative that players make good use of studying the course map prior to their round. With a new challenge around every corner, golfers are set to have one of their best rounds of golf to date. The Cork Golf Club is a consistent favourite among golfers in the UK, and it is hardly difficult to see why; the golf course offers all who attempt it an invigorating round of golf, and combined with a beautiful layout in one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Cork region, golfers can easily see what all the fuss is about.

The Twenty Ten Course at the world-famous Celtic Manor Resort made its debut at the 2010 Ryder Cup, and since then, it has made a huge name of itself in the golfing world. The Twenty Ten Course should be a top golf course on any serious golfer’s list of must-play golf courses in the UK due to its outstanding reputation, beautiful landscapes and its unique challenge. The golf course itself was designed to host on the world’s most famous golf tournaments, meaning it should not fall short of any expectations for a superb round of golf. The Twenty Ten Course scales back an impressive 7,493 yards, therefore the sheer size of the golf course is a challenge in itself, regardless of the hazards in its design. The designers of the golf course were sure to incorporate plenty of water hazards as to trip up a steady scorecard wherever possible; water hazards are introduced on half of the holes here, so any amateurs must be sure to bring plenty of spare golf balls. While the Twenty Ten Course offers a stern test of golf it has many risk and reward elements to it, so if golfers can get their wits about them, then they are sure to prevail. However, even if golfers find themselves doing well, the final 18th hole can trip up even the most experienced golfer as shown in some of the most unforgettable Ryder Cup moments. While the challenge is consistent throughout the Twenty Ten Course, each of its 18 holes have a unique character, and many of them have a real links feel to them.

Another fantastic golf course in Wales to play on your next golf holiday in the UK is the Nefyn and District Golf Club, a beautiful coastal golf course lining the Porthdinllaen cliffs. The golf club comprises of 27 holes of superb golf set across its Old Course and the modern extension. Throughout their round of golf, players can take in breath-taking views across the sea and all along the dramatic coastline across the peninsular. On a clear summer’s day, golfers should be able to see the Wicklow Mountains from across the Irish Sea. However, the views at the Nefyn and District Golf Club is not its only dramatic aspect; the golf course is known to offer an unruly challenge that even experienced golfers find themselves tested and intimidated by. However, with a good range of tee-off options, even amateur golfers can enjoy a spectacular round of golf here. Despite its creation over one hundred years ago at the start of the 20th century, the greens and fairways at the Nefyn and District Golf Club are kept in immaculate condition in all seasons, meaning a great round of golf can be enjoyed here throughout the year. The Nefyn and District Golf Club comprises of three loops of nine which can be selected depending on the individual skill set and preferences of golfers; the Old Course combines the front and middle nine, and they are typically the favourite choice among golfers due to its fantastic views and holes played directly across the cliff edges.

Designed by the world-renowned Jack Nicklaus, on the Nicklaus Course at the St Mellion Golf Club, you are set to have an unforgettable round of golf. While the Nicklaus Course is Nicklaus’ first golf course design in Europe, he has not failed to leave his mark since its opening in 1988; Nicklaus has even commented that he managed to exceed his own expectations with the design of this golf course, meaning it is truly an unmissable golf course on your next UK golf break. The Nicklaus Course is the perfect golf course for players who are looking for the perfect mix of course with American roots, mixed with a contemporary European design. This golf course is not for the faint-hearted and it is sure to test each and every aspect of your game with several multi-tiered greens and some really tricky tee shots. With its fantastic range of hazards and its unforgiving greens, the Nicklaus Course is best suited for lower handicappers who are looking to push their golfing talents to the limits on one of the UK’s best golf courses, and one of Jack Nicklaus’ finest pieces of work.

Last but not least is the Hunting Course located at the Slaley Hall Golf Club. Commonly labelled as the “Augusta of the North”, players should anticipate a gruelling round of golf here, and it is certainly a must for your next golf break in the UK. This superb golf course was designed by the world-famous golf architect Dave Thomas; so golfers should expect nothing less than an unforgettable round of golf. While the Hunting Course poses as a challenge to even the most experienced of golfers, with a great range of tee off options, even the more amateur players can enjoy a round of golf here. Set in the heart of a pine forest, golfers can enjoy an idyllic and leisurely round while being kept on their toes throughout. Dave Thomas did not fail in his ambitions to create a superb golf course that blends in perfectly with its natural landscape to host its original features. While the dense pine forest areas are undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing, with many trees dotted around the edges of the narrow fairways, they are sure to capture any wayward shots to taint even a steady scorecard. Demanding the perfect balance of length and accuracy, amateurs should be sure to bring plenty of extra balls!

This week’s blog is a guide to some of the best golf courses from around the world that we recommend having on your bucket list. There are some spectacular golf courses out there and if you are a discerning golfer you will have identified the ones that you want to have the opportunity to play but we recommend these brilliant courses as a round on one of these courses is truly unforgettable.

Both of the courses at Fairmont St Andrew’s are incredible and each deserve a place on this list and it isn’t hard to see why. The Kittocks course is situated on elevated ground next to the cliff-tops and boasts a fantastic and dramatic design that is a brilliant test of golf. The course features two man-made lakes but the layout of the course honours the tradition of golf at St Andrew’s with two double greens and many deep pot bunkers. As you play your round, you will meander along the Fife coastline where you can enjoy beautiful views over St Andrews which just adds to the brilliant feel of this course. Beware of this course, you may be eased in for the first few holes but when you get to the par-5 5th hole, you never really look back. The Torrance course is a testing one at 7,230 yards from the back tees. The course played host to The Open in 2010 and is a top-quality course right from the welcome that you receive in the clubhouse to each and every one of the well-manicured greens. The course is built on the cliff tops and whilst you are enjoying your round you can enjoy stunning views over the North Sea. Like its sister course, you have a gentle start, but the course soon becomes trickier. With a professional welcome at the clubhouse and great service as well as two beautifully manicured courses which both will provide you with an excellent test of golf, it is no surprise that we recommend that Fairmont St Andrews Golf Club has a place on your golfing bucket list.

Next, is the brilliant Albatros at Le Golf National which is considered to be one of the best championship courses in Europe and so it is no surprise that the course will host the 2018 Ryder Cup. The course boasts brilliantly fast greens, undulating fairways and links-style bunkers which makes this course a strategic challenge of golf. During your round here, you will need to use every single club in your bag in order to score as well as you can. The finale of this course is very impressive, and the greens are surrounded by water hazards which makes it a fantastic and challenging end to the course and is sure to mean some last-minute drama at the Ryder Cup later this year. It is not surprising that this is a recommendation of ours for your golfing bucket list and so make sure that you book your golf break soon as possible as we are sure that this course will be getting a lot of attention this year…

Fancourt Golf Club’s Links course is another one that we highly recommend to you and is arguably South Africa’s premier leisure resort which is situated in the heart of the Garden Route. The course is situated on over 1,500 acres of lush African countryside and boasts the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as the perfect backdrop. This Gary Player course has a unique feel to it and is a magnificent round of golf with some amazing wildlife and scenery to enjoy during your round if you can pull your eyes away from the course! There are no easy holes on the course and the rough is severe and penal, if you’re a high handicapper this may not be the best course for you but is one that you can aspire to play.

The K Club is widely considered to be one of the most opulent golf resorts in Ireland so it isn’t hard to see why we have added this to our list of golf courses that should be on your bucket list. The Palmer Ryder course at K Club is a stern test of golf at 7,337 yards from the back tees. As you play your round here, you will have to take on many different challenges successfully in order to finish the round with a good scorecard. These challenges range from the vast number of water hazards to strategically placed bunkers and fast greens. This course should not be underestimated and even if you don’t score well, a trip to The K Club is a brilliant one with first-class service and facilities as well as a course with a fantastic layout and stunning views. There are some very intimidating holes which you must tackle carefully including the 16th which is a very long par-5 at just under 600 yards from the blue tees and boasts a double dogleg where you must navigate your ball around the water and bunkers as well as many trees before you get to approach the green which is protected on two sides by the River Laffey and is difficult to reach successfully. This is a brilliant course with some unique and interesting holes as well as a lovely clubhouse to enjoy a drink and meal in after.

Last, but certainly not least, is Real Club Valderrama which has hosted many championship golfing events since its opening and has justifiably been ranked as the number one course in Europe. It is always in immaculate condition and boasts a great design but is one that challenges even the best of golfers with many tight holes and hazards to navigate your way around. The closing holes are always described as being very tough but if you choose your tee option wisely then you should be able to get a fairly good scorecard. Although the green fee is a little expensive here, it is more than worth the money to get the chance to play on this world-renowned course.

We hope that you have taken a note of the courses you would be most interested in adding to your golfing bucket list and that you consider booking a golf break to one of them and the fantastic hotels that are nearby to these brilliant courses…

With March upon us, Springtime is fast approaching and the weather will soon be improving (well, most of the time) so it’s the perfect time to think about booking your golf break to the U.K. Ireland is a beautiful country with stunning scenery, great hotels and superb golf and our tours allow you to enjoy your time there and get the opportunity to play a few different courses.

In South West Ireland, just a five minute walk from the heart of Kenmare is the Kenmare Bay Hotel & Resort. All of the rooms are spacious with flat-screen TVs and there is free Wi-Fi in public areas. Whilst you are not on the golf course, you can spend your time in the leisure centre in the pool or the gym or you can take a wander into Kenmare where there is a range of different restaurants and pubs for you to enjoy. The restaurant at the hotel is also fantastic, The Bay Restaurant serves delicious European cuisine with local produce. There are also a couple of bars for you to enjoy a few drinks in if you don’t fancy walking out into town. This is a lovely hotel in a great location and staying here gives you the opportunity to play three courses which are in close proximity…Kenmare-Bay-Hotel

Ring of Kerry golf course is set amongst natural heathland and overlooks Kenmare Bay. From every hole, the course boasts beautiful, panoramic views across the Bay which just adds to the enjoyment of the course. This is an extremely hilly course with dramatic elevation changes and there are plenty of hazards with water and patches of rough on the fairways. However, there are plenty of tee options which makes this course playable for golfers of all abilities. This is a fantastically designed course with breathtaking views that is a must-play.Ring-of-Kerry

The next course on the tour is Castlegregory Golf Links course may only be a nine hole course but it definitely isn’t one to pass up the chance at playing. It is a very challenging course, especially when the weather conditions are harsh but it is one of the most scenic courses you will ever get the chance to experience with Mount Brandon as a magnificent backdrop and the use of natural features throughout the course. This is an enjoyable but testing challenge of golf making it a perfect addition to this tour.Castlegregory

Last, but certainly not least, is Dingle Golf Club. The design of the course is simple yet impressive with the holes seemingly etched into the natural landscape but this doesn’t mean that is isn’t a challenging one. The course is dotted with strategically placed bunkers and the fairways are undulating which makes it a fair test of anyone’s golf. This course could be described as an authentic Irish Links course and is one that could be considered to be a real gem in the area – definitely not one to miss out on!Dingle-Golf-Club

In Dublin, Cassidy’s Hotel is a great little hotel set in the heart of the city. This hotel’s location could not be anymore perfect for a golf break in Dublin as it is within a ten minute walk of Dublin’s main attractions and there are two superb golf courses nearby for you to enjoy. The hotel is made up of three Georgian townhouses which have been converted to make this perfect, three-star boutique hotel. Of course, being in the centre of the city gives you the chance to experience Dublin in all its glory from the nightlife, to the culture and food available there. If you are wanting food right on your doorstep though, the hotel’s restaurant also serves delicious traditional Irish cuisine and the breakfast here is great! Cassidy’s Hotel is the ideal location for your next golf holiday to Dublin and so it isn’t surprising that it is the base for our Dublin tour…Cassidys-Hotel

Whilst staying at Cassidy’s, you get the chance to play two superb golf courses which are within close proximity of the hotel. Portmarnock Golf Course is situated on its own sandy peninsula and is stretched over 500 acres of land. This Links course provides players with stunning views of the Irish coastline and if you are lucky with the weather conditions you will be able to see the Mountains of Mourne to the North. With water on three sides of the course, you are certainly in trouble if the wind is harsh but even without the wind, the fast and undulating greens make this a challenging course, but definitely one to be admired.Portmarnock

The Island Golf Club is a fantastic Links course with some of the most interestingly designed holes you will ever get the opportunity to play. This course is a stern test of golf and like many of the courses here, if the wind is blowing those even with the lowest of handicaps will struggle to finish the round with a good scorecard. Although this course is a tough one with fast greens and narrow fairways, the scenery is simply breathtaking and even if you finish the round with an awful scorecard, you won’t regret this round of golf. This course manages to incorporate its stunning surroundings into the round, this a must-play course when you are staying in the Dublin area and so it is no surprise that this is the final addition to the Dublin tour.The-Island-Golf-Club

The Dudsbury Golf Club’s Championship course has been the venue for several prestigious golfing events such as the BMW PGA Order of Merit Championship and the PGA Europro Tour and if you want to see why this was the course picked then there is no better opportunity than this! The course is set in a beautiful location, amongst 160 acres of Dorset countryside which just makes the round here more enjoyable. There is no doubt that the 16th hole is a feature hole where you will have to show yourself to be a good driver in order to reach the green across two lakes! For after your round, the clubhouse is a fantastic place to sit and relax whilst enjoying more views of the Stour Valley and of course, a cold drink!

Dudsbury

The second course for this Bournemouth tour is the Championship course at Meyrick Park which is a demanding test of golf set amongst stunning Dorset countryside. It is an undulating parkland course with many challenges even for a golfer with the lowest handicap. The opening hole is a spectacular one where your driver is over a valley to the small green which is cut out of the hill. This is a great, challenging course which always seems to be in perfect condition and it is a fantastic addition to the Bournemouth tour.

Meyrick

Our second tour is the Kent Golf Coast tour where you are based at The Lodge at Princes Golf Club. The Lodge is the former clubhouse of Princes Golf Club and has been extensively renovated to provide guests with luxury accommodation and breathtaking views of the two great golf courses as well as across the Sandwich bay. The Brasserie restaurant is situated on the bay and provides a great dining experience for guests here with the use of local Kentish produce as well as an outdoor terrace to enjoy a cocktail or beer on after your meal! The Lodge is just over a 10-minutes’ drive into the medieval town of Sandwich where you can find great pubs, independent shops, art galleries and some historic churches. This is a fantastic and unique place to get the opportunity to stay and with the two golf courses so nearby it is not hard to see why this is a sure winner for your next golf break to the UK…

The-Lodge-at-Princes

Princes Golf Club is a modern championship links course set on the Kentish coast. This is a 27-hole course comprising of three loops of nine holes: Himalayas, Dunes and Shore. This course has some of the best facilities with excellent practice facilities, attentive staff and a beautiful clubhouse for you to enjoy your post-round drink in! This is a long and challenging course at over 7200 yards but there are a few different tee positions from which those with higher handicaps can tee off from, making it less of a challenge and more of a holiday course!

Princes

The Royal St George’s Golf Club is considered to be one of the finest links courses in England and has been selected to be the venue for The Open Championship no less than 14 times. This course requires accuracy and concentration if you are to score even close to your handicap due to the many blind shots that you will be required to take and bunkers that you have to avoid! This is a fantastic course and although can be a challenge for golfers of all abilities, it has some very interesting holes and scenery – the 4th on the Himalayas loop will definitely not disappoint! To round off the Kent Coast tour this course is perfect.

Royal-St-Georges
