Where is Monte Rei?

The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Monte Rei is located about 20 minutes drive from the beautiful town of Tavira in the East Algarve, Portugal.

The course opened in Summer 2007 and is the number 1 course in Portugal and is ranked 12th best in continental Europe. This really is an amazing place. As you wind your way up the drive to the stunning clubhouse, the hairs on the back of your neck start to stand on end; somehow you know even before you reach the course that you are in for a special experience.

You are immediately met by the friendly staff who will take your clubs and they won’t be seen again until you are shown to your buggy ready to head to the first tee. We highly recommend that you allow time to enjoy the clubhouse before you head out on the course. With lovely views from the terrace and fantastic service, you will be in a relaxed state and well prepared to play this spectacular golf course.

The course itself is set up in the hills and has some truly inspired holes. Once you tee off you will continually ask yourself if the course can keep getting better and the answer is “yes”. There are a number of signature holes here and all the par 3’s will need some thought before teeing off. A hole that simply must get a mention is the 3rd, a downhill par 4 which asks questions from the tee and once safely in play will requires an accurate shot to the green which is surrounded on 3 sides by water. Monte Rei is definitely a must play when visiting the Algarve.
