Itanhanga Golf Club

  • The only golf club in Rio de Janeiro with 27-holes, the golf course at the Itanhanga Golf Club offers its players a round of invigorating and varied play. Home to a beautiful landscape and some truly unique hazards, it comes as no surprise that this world-renowned golf course has hosted a range of prestigious tournaments including the Brazil Open and the LPGA Tour.

The Itanhanga Golf Club is widely considered to be the most exclusive in Brazil due to the invigorating challenge it bears, and the world-renowned landscape recently renovated by the great Robert Trent Jones Snr. The golf course at the Intanhanga Golf Club has made its impact in golf across Brazil, setting the bar for the new golf courses popping up nationwide. The club offers its players 18 holes on its championship course, and recent additions include a further 9 holes. Despite the Itanhanga Golf Club being a relatively flat golf course, it is home to a wide variety of decade-old trees, creating a scenic landscape which also runs the risk of swallowing any wayward shots!

Nestled deep in the hills surrounding Rio de Janeiro, just a 30-minute drive away from the city centre, the Itanhanga Golf Club offers its players a truly idyllic ambience and a break from the hustle and bustle of this vibrant city. Golfers are given a unique experience with a round of golf here, as it feels as if the round is set in a large valley. Due to its ideal location, golfers can move from a captivating city to a peaceful parkland golf course with ease for the best of both worlds.

Measuring a modest 6,178 yards from the back tees, the Itanhanga Golf Club is ideally situated in a beautiful valley where golfers must work their way through tight and tree-lined fairways in order to maintain a steady score. Yet in order for players on this fantastic golf course to make the most out of a relatively short course, the hazards here have been concentrated creating an invigorating challenge you are sure not to forget anytime soon. With a variety of ponds and streams to conquer, players are kept on their toes throughout and will find every aspect of their game challenged. The Itanhanga Golf Club is home to five par-3s, all of which are challengingly short, whereas in contrast the lengthy par-5s at the 15th and 16th holes are a threat to hinder a steady score late in the round.
