Royal Troon - Portland Course

The Portland course, is the second course at Royal Troon and boasts a thrilling round of pure Scottish links golf. Not as challenging as its world famous Old Course, Portland provides a great round of golf and offers the same stunning setting on the Ayrshire coast.
Named after the Dukes of Portland, who assisted in the construction of the docks located at Troon harbour, the Portland course opened for play in 1896 and has been a great compliment to the main event ever since.
The Portland course is also a links design, which is a little more sheltered form the prevailing winds and offers a superb array of holes to wet any golfers appetite. The course weaves its way through an undulating terrain, surrounded by gorse and broom and offers a fair share of Par 3s (five in total), and four Par 5s which are all located on the back nine.
The design is made up of two loops of nine that return back to two clubhouses at Royal Troon. The main hazard here is the tricky rough which will capture your ball on any wayward shot, not to mention the ditched and strategically positioned bunkers.
The Portland Couse at Royal Troon is a great course in its entirety. Although shorter and less testing than the famous Old Course, it promises a brilliant round of links golf.
