Waterville Golf Club

  • Waterville Golf Links is situated in South West Ireland and would pair well with courses such as Ring of Kerry, Tralee Golf Club and Beaufort Golf Club. We recommend staying in Killarney at the Killarney Court Hotel which is an excellent base for a golf tour in South West Ireland.

The history of golf in Waterville is an interesting one, it was first played here in a rudimentary form in the late 1800’s due to the large influx of men moving to the area to work on transatlantic communications. At this point Golf was mostly played in the winter when the grass was dormant. Around the turn of the century a 9 hole layout was introduced and the first semblance of a club was formed. For the first half of the century the course was enjoyed by the locals but it also experienced fluctuations in interest and membership.
It was in the 1970’s that the course really came to life, this was down to the vision of John A Mulchary and his associates who decided that the Waterville Golf Club had potential to be more. So after some carful planning they set about introducing 9 more holes and redesigning the course so that it would be considered amongst the best courses in Ireland.
The course from the back tees now stretches across 7,350 yards of idyllic Irish coastline. It is par 72 and unusually for a links course has no blind tee shots. The course ducks and dives through the towering dunes, with the natural fauna and flora giving colour to the landscape and bringing an abundance of bird species to observe on your way round.
The club house has had extensive renovations but still has the original bar & restaurant area from 1889 so you can really feel the history when visit this place. The views from the clubhouse are wonderous and you will not be disappointed if you add this course to your next golf escape to Ireland.
