Aberdovey Golf Club

  • Aberdovey Golf Club boasts an enchanting location situated within the Snowdonia National Park at the mouth of the Dovey Estuary and it is a living testament to the unique characteristics of links golf. You are sure to lose yourself in the beauty of this course and its landscape.

Three brilliant architects of the early 20th century – Colt, Braid and Fowler – all had a hand in shaping this brilliant course into what it looks like today. Despite the fact that this is an old course, it is not short by any means as it stands at 6,700 from the new “Darwin” back tees and will prove a stern test to golfers with even the lowest handicaps and is widely considered to be the hardest links course in the British Isles.

This is due to the many hazards that are present both on and off the fairway, the course features punishing rough and rough-edged bunkers which are attractive but lethal to your scorecard. When the wind is blowing this can be one of the most picturesque but challenging courses you may ever have the fortune to play and a round here should not be missed out on and it really isn’t hard to see why.

The round begins with a very tight opening hole which acts as a good tell-tale sign of the difficulties that this round of golf has in store for golfers of all abilities. Following on from the 1st hole are a few excellent and interesting holes that will put your golf to the test.

There is a trio of par-4s to conclude a brilliant round of golf here at Aberdovey and they are all memorable. The 16th hole is a short hole and starts with a tee box nearly on the adjacent railway line. This is a classic risk reward hole that is punishing if you fail! The 17th is a gem of a hole but there is a channel lying in wait for your ball if you hit an errant shot. the concluding hole features this same channel down the left side and the approach to the green is fiercely protected by out-of-bounds.

This is a fantastic and challenging course which boasts everything that you need from a club and its course in order to have a brilliant golfing experience.
