Ferndown Golf Club

  • Ferndown Golf Club boasts a lovely location, situated within manicured countryside just a couple of miles north from the lovely seaside town of Bournemouth. The club was founded in 1912 and Harold Hinton, who is one of the finest amateur golfers of all time, designed the fantastic course.

The Old course at Ferndown Golf Club is set out across a sandy outcrop of land where there is an abundance of heather and pines which makes it a very pretty golf course. This is a tricky course unless you manage to keep your ball in play with very accurate shots throughout the whole round. Although the course is considered to be relatively short at 6,500 yards, there are many hazards for you to contend with during a round here with the abundance of heather and pine which is lying in wait for errant shots. There are also many bunkers which are very well designed and are strategically placed to cause the most damage to your score. This heathland layout will challenge even the best golfers and will pose a great and beautiful challenge to the average handicapper. This is a fantastic course which stands as a great and challenging course, perfect addition to a golf break to the Bournemouth area.

Ferndown Golf Club boasts one of the prettiest and best-conditioned courses in the South and the club matches the standards of its course. There is a great driving range within which you can have a practice few shots before you tackle the Old course and after your round, make sure that you take time to relax in the clubhouse where there is a great bar and restaurant in which you can enjoy some delicious food.

Right from the 1st tee you will be impressed with this course as you can look down the hole and take in the vision of the beautifully defined fairway with its heather-topped frilly bunkers and glorious pine trees framing the hole. The course maintains this brilliant quality throughout with several great par-4s with sloping and quick greens. Another excellent hole is the 16th which features a unique, semi-circular, three-tiered green which falls slightly away from the angle of play. However, getting to the green is easy but keeping your ball on it and getting it to the hole is very tricky.

This is an excellent course which is tricky, especially when the wind is blowing but is a very fun and enjoyable round which offers golfers a fantastic round of golf.
