The O’Meara course was designed by Mark O’Meara who was the 1998 Open Champion and US Masters Champion.
The O’Meara opened in 2002 and is a classic parkland course filled with beautiful scenery and stern challenges to test golfers of all abilities.
The O’Meara course at the Carton House Resort is a stunning course and its design has made excellent use of the existing mature woodland. Although this is a very beautiful course, make sure to not get distracted by the incredible scenery as this course is filled with challenges that will test golfers of all abilities. The course is routed over gently undulating landscape with the final few holes down beside the meandering River Rye. Throughout the course there are hazards with penal rough and the many trees that contribute to this course’s surroundings as well as the River Rye which you have to contend with towards the end of your round. This is a very hilly and tricky course which requires a lot concentration if you are looking to finish the round with a good scorecard. The O’Meara course is a perfect addition to your stay and play golf escape at Carton House Hotel as regardless of your handicap, you will enjoy a round here.
The O’Meara course is one of two excellent golf courses which are situated on the Carton House Estate and both offer a great round of golf and there are great facilities at the golf club for you to enjoy whilst you are here playing golf. The Carton House Estate boasts a brilliant Clubhouse which is welcoming to both guests and members and is the perfect place for you to enjoy a few drinks and even a meal within the Clubhouse’s restaurant.
The courses’ holes are routed over undulating landscape with some of the best holes saved until last. The 14th, 15th and 16th holes are particularly commented upon as being standout holes of the course and it isn’t hard to see why. On the 14th hole you have to play to a green which is surrounded by water which means that your tee shot is key in order to set you up to land on the green rather than in the water. The 15th hole is a long par five and requires you to cross the River Rye twice between the tee and the green which can make things a little difficult! The 16th hole requires a very long tee shot if you are hoping to carry the ball over the water…
The O’Meara course is a perfect addition to any golf escape to the Dublin area, but it is particularly special if you stay within the Carton House Resort and play both the fantastic Carton House courses.
