ireland

In this blog, we have a few different fantastic resorts and a few different great golf courses that you should definitely consider looking into when planning your next golf break in England or Ireland…

dorset

First up we have the Dorset Golf & Country Club which is situated in a stunning, tranquil setting in the midst of a pine forest. This is a lovely resort and offers not only a lovely 16-bedroom hotel which is perfect for smaller groups but also some superb log cabins which sleep up to eight people in them. The log cabins are fully furnished and each have a fully-fitted kitchen so you have the option of self-catering very easily when staying here! The resort boasts a range of different facilities (aside for the magnificent golf course!) from fishing lakes to a fitness centre and sauna as well as an indoor championship bowls rink. There is plenty to do and see here but of course the highlight of the resort is the 27 holes of championship golf that are on-site. The Championship Course consists of three different loops of nine holes so you will be able to mix and match them to play the course you want to play. This is a beautiful location for your next golf break to Dorset and the golf here is not to be missed out on!

old-thorns

Hotel Old Thorns is a four-star luxury hotel set in the rolling hills of the Hampshire countryside and has no fewer than nine different options for accommodation! Next up we have three different courses which are well worth a play even if you don’t choose to stay in a resort nearby…

east-brighton

East Brighton Golf Club is a beautiful downland course with some spectacular coastal views. The great thing about this course is that it is normally open for play all-year-round because it is built on chalk it rarely suffers from the poor weather conditions here that we sometimes get in England. The course is a genuine test of golf for those of all abilities and is known for being a fair round of golf to play! It is just a five minutes’ drive from the centre of Brighton where there is so much to do and see you will definitely want to stay and play here!

royal-ashdown-forest-golf-club-old-course

The Old Course at the Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club is a very old course but is still consistently ranked as one of the top 100 courses on the British Isles. Although you may feel settled by the fact that the course doesn’t have a single bunker to catch your errant shots, it is still known for being a true test of golf for even those with the lowest handicaps! Along the course there are some beautiful views across Sussex, Surrey and Kent and its location is simply stunning as well. This is a great course to play even if you are not planning on staying!

ring-of-kerry

In Ireland, the Ring of Kerry course is set amongst lakes and mountains to produce a simply stunning course and a testament to that is its placing as one of the top in the province. It’s a stunning parkland course with exhilarating elevation changes and water coming into play on many of the holes. This course features a great variety of different holes and after you have enjoyed a round here you will not be questioning why this is rated as one of the best courses in the country.

Insider’s guide to Campo Real & Royal Obidos

This week’s blog is a guide to two fantastic hotels and their superb golf courses which are situated in the Lisbon region. Lisbon is a great destination for a spring golf escape where you are much more likely to get the sunny, dry weather expected of spring than you are in the UK! With the weather as atrocious as it is at the moment here in the UK make sure that you have something to look forward to for early 2017 and book your next golf break away today…

evolutee

Evolutee Royal Obidos Hotel & Spa is located on the beautiful Silver Coast just an hour away from Lisbon and was the winner of the IAGTO Best Resort in Europe 201. This stunning hotel only opened in 2014 and has fast become a favourite of ours and it isn’t hard to see why. All of the beautifully designed guest rooms have private balconies that you can enjoy views out to Obidos Lagoon from or if you are on the West side of the hotel, you get infinite views over the Atlantic Ocean and of the world-class Royal Obidos golf course. The hotel’s main restaurant is the Kobe Steak & Sushi Restaurant where you can experience a superb meal in a lovely setting with fantastic views to enjoy whilst you are sipping on fine wine. There are three bars, one of which is a poolside bar, where you can enjoy a range of different cocktails, wines and beers either after 18-holes on the golf course or before you sit down for a fine meal in the hotel’s restaurant. If you are less into golf and more into relaxation then although during the spring months you might not get to do as much sunbathing by the outdoor pool as you may like to, the hotel boasts a great spa where you can enjoy a range of different treatments, a Finnish sauna or the heated indoor pool. This is a stunning hotel which is perfect for your next spring golf holiday to the Lisbon region.

royal-obidos

Royal Obidos Golf Course will present a test to golfers of all abilities with around 7,300 yards (from the back tees) of stunning views and a range of different challenging holes. The signature hole on the front nine is the par-3 3rd hole where the green is on an island with spectacular views out to the Obidos lagoon as its backdrop. The 18th hole is definitely an impressive finish to the round, it’s a par-5 hole and you have stunning views across the back nine, the ocean and the clubhouse as you play the hole. With a variety of different challenges as well as beautiful views and an interesting round it is no surprise that this course won the Best Course in Portugal award in 2015.

dolce-campo-real

Dolce Campo Real Golf Resort & Spa is also situated on the Silver Coast in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by vineyards but is just 30 minutes’ drive from Lisbon airport. The guestrooms are all individually decorated and have stunning views of either the courtyard or the golf course. The hotel features three great restaurants that you can enjoy as well as two different bars to enjoy a post-round cold beer at! There are plenty of activities to enjoy on-site if you are not into playing golf like tennis and horse-riding or just relaxing in the spa. The resort is in a great location as you have easy access to two fantastic golf courses – Royal Obidos and Campo Real as well as several traditional Portuguese villages nearby. This hotel is perfect if you are looking for a quieter golf break as there are some great deals here and not a lot of noise! This is another fantastic location for your next golf break to the Lisbon region – especially if you are looking to play a couple of different courses and explore some of the traditional Portuguese villages in the area.

campo-real

Campo Real Golf Course is another challenging golf course that will test all golfers regardless of how low their handicap score is and once you start to see the deep inclines, blind shots and hills you will understand why. This course is well-manicured and the service here is very high which always makes a round more enjoyable! This course is well integrated into its surroundings and makes use of the valleys and hills to make this course more challenging and interesting. The par-5 5th hole demonstrates this as you tee off downhill but then you have to get back up to a raised green after a sharp left turn in the course. The course has beautiful surroundings with rolling hills and vineyards surrounding the fairways and at the penultimate hole you can experience panoramic views across the whole of the course. This is another great but challenging course and when you are staying at Dolce Campo Real you get the chance to play both this course and Royal Obidos which makes for a perfect golf break!

We hope that you enjoyed this week’s blog and it has made you think about your golf break for spring 2017 so that you can escape the dreary English weather and go somewhere like the Lisbon region to experience fabulous golf and stay in a beautiful hotel in a wonderful location!  nav-logo-bg-square

The Insider’s Guide to the Fuerteventura Princess…

This week’s blog is an insiders guide to the fantastic Fuerteventura Princess Hotel. This blog will tell you everything that you need to know about Fuerteventura, the hotel and the fantastic golf you will get the opportunity to play when you decide to stay here. With the nights drawing in and the weather getting noticeably colder, it is definitely time to think about when you are going to take your next golf break to the sun and this is a perfect one to consider with Fuerteventura’s year-round spring climate!1

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands and can offer you everything that anyone could possibly want on their next golf break. You are never far from a beautiful sandy beach and the four golf courses here are all superb. Fuerteventura, like the other Canary Islands, boasts about 3,000 hours of sunshine per year which is something us Brits can only dream of! The spring-like climate makes this island ideal for a golfing holiday as you will always be warm enough to enjoy the beaches and sunbathe around the pool, but not too sweltering (especially if you go in autumn and springtime) that you can’t enjoy the fantastic golf that is on offer here! With so much to do and see here from over 150 long, sandy beaches with coves to the watersports you can enjoy on the beach to finding out about the history of Fuerteventura – you could certainly never be bored or short of fun and interesting things to do here.5

Set on the beachfront of Playa Jandia is the beautiful four-star Fuerteventura Princess Hotel. The hotel offers you a range of activities that you can enjoy from swimming gin one of the outdoor pools to playing tennis to the gym. All of the rooms are fully air-conditioned and come with a satellite TV as well as either a balcony or a terrace that you can enjoy beautiful sea views from. If you are less into activities, then the hotel features a lovely spa which boasts a sauna and a Turkish Bath! If you are making this trip into a family holiday, then there is definitely something for the kids here too with both a kid’s club with a mini disco as well as a maxi-club with a games room for teenagers.

10

The hotel is set amongst tropical gardens and after a long round of golf you can take a walk around and just down to the beach or relax around one of the four outdoor pools available before enjoying a few refreshing drinks at one of the bars around the hotel. There are two restaurants, the main restaurant serves a buffet at breakfast and dinner with themed nights twice a week. Restaurant La Choza is where you can go for late breakfast, snacks and lunch and you can enjoy your meal out on the terrace which overlooks the beach. After you have had a lovely dinner, every night, there are shows in the evening and several nights a week you can enjoy live music at the hotel which provides a lovely holiday atmosphere!

4

The hotel is situated in an ideal location, just seconds from the beach and only 8km from the town of Jandia. In Jandia you can find lots of different bars and restaurants, this means that if you are tired of eating at the hotel you definitely have various other options to explore being so close to the town!

6

This is a fantastic hotel and is a short distance from the fantastic Jandia Golf Course…

8

Jandia Golf Course is located right in the heart of Jandia and is surrounded by beautiful white beaches and stunning scenery. The club offers fantastic facilities and a great round of golf that is definitely one to play. The course and its facilities are at harmony with their surroundings, the course route runs through a valley which is bordered with exotic wildlife and some superb views. The course is considered to be of medium-high difficulty, as it is quite tight in places, but is so at one with nature that even if you are not scoring so well you will definitely still appreciate a round or two here! Furthermore, with four sets of tees at each hole it is easy to make sure that everyone has a chance at getting a fair scorecard.

12

The facilities at the club include a driving range with 20 covered bays, a putting green, a chipping green and a practice field but little compares to actually playing this scenic course. The course covers 5,857 metres and many of those metres are taken up with obstacles from the four lakes to the dry riverbeds to the natural wildlife that you can enjoy (and try to avoid!) throughout the length of the course. This is quite a hilly course and so it can be recommended that you hire a buggy to avoid tiring out before you have even played many holes.

2

This is a truly fantastic, challenging course with some truly breathtaking views and one that is great if you are looking for a challenge but also if you just want to casually play and enjoy a great course when you are on holiday! This course definitely tops off staying at the Fuerteventura and the course and the hotel are certainly a winning combination for your next golf break to the Canary Islands!

3

We hope that you enjoyed this blog and that when you are thinking about how grey and miserable it is outside that you think about the Fuerteventura Princess and Jandia Golf and consider booking your next golf break to escape the cold and long English wintertime!

With so many fantastic courses in England now and some stunning hotels with fantastic service and facilities it is no surprise that there are far more people choosing to stay and play here in England rather than travel abroad.

golf-4

Whether you’re looking to stay close to home or travel across the country for a nice long weekend somewhere new there are so many different courses and superb hotels for you to choose from you will be spoilt for choice on where to go!

In this blog you can get a taste of some of the great courses you can play and enjoy when staying in the South of England…

tudor-park

First up we have Tudor Park golf course which is a beautiful 18-hole championship course which boasts a variety of different holes both in terms of difficulty and length. There are holes ranging from relaxing and easy ones to ones that you will have to concentrate on from your tee-off until your final putt if you want to score close to par! The course is set amongst beautiful countryside with narrow fairways which are lined with pine trees and views of the rolling countryside for miles. This is a fantastic course which has hosted some prestigious events and competitions in the past like the PGA EuroPro Tour on three occasions and the Kent PGA Pro-Am in 2010.

bletchingley

Next up we have Bletchingley Golf Club which is a great course suitable for golfers of all abilities which has stunning views over the North Downs. This course is integrated beautifully into its surroundings and the design definitely makes the most of the undulating ground upon which the course has been built on. The surrounding area is stunning with a wide variety of nature bordering the fairways from mature fine oak trees to a running stream to the backdrop of the Weald. There are a few hidden hazards from over-sized bunkers to the occasional water hazards and the rough is difficult to navigate around in places which makes this course an interesting and scenic round. This course is another great one in the South of England and is well worth a round or two!

dale-hill

Dale Hill Golf Club in East Sussex boasts two fantastic courses – the Woosnam course and the Dale Hill course. Both are situated in amongst rolling hills and beautiful woodland and feature stunning panoramic views of the surrounding areas. The Dale Hill course features nine parkland holes and nine heavily wooded holes at the back which makes it a challenging round even for those with a low handicap. The Woosnam course has hosted many professional events and has been said to be difficult for even the most discerning golfer but playable for an amateur which makes it a great holiday course for golfers who want a challenge but also a course that won’t provide them with an awful scorecard!

goodwood-downs

Goodwood Downs course is regarded by many as being the best downland course in the UK and provides a challenge for golfers of all abilities. The views from this course are simply breathtaking as on a clear day you can see to Chichester Cathedral, the Isle of Wight and beyond. This course has undergone extensive renovations and has been extended to 7,102 metres to cater for today’s ‘big hitters’ and now there are a variety of different holes with some superb views and some tricky doglegs as well as bunkers on most holes to catch those errant shots! This is a fantastic course and is a favourite of many keen golfers and with so much to do in the area this is a great course to go and play whilst combining a round with a visit to the local area!

magnolia-park

Magnolia Park is set in the Buckinghamshire countryside and is considered to be one of the most testing courses in England. At every tee you can enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding you before teeing off and experiencing the undulating fairways and many water hazards, these combined with the wind can create a challenging round for even those with the lowest handicaps! This is a simply stunning course which will provide an exciting and scenic round for anyone brave enough to take to the tees here! Another great course to incorporate into your next golf holiday in England!

princes

Last up on this list is the Princes Golf Club but this certainly isn’t the last course that you must take a look at playing in the South of England as there are so many more for you to consider besides these courses mentioned. Princes Golf Club boasts a 27-hole Links Championship course which is made up of three separate 9-hole loops. The Dunes and the Shores loops make up the Championship course and the Himalayas loop is much shorter but no less enjoyable. The fairways and bunkers are all in superb condition which makes a round here the more enjoyable. This course is definitely a challenging one so may be more suitable for those with a lower handicap as there are many bunkers waiting to catch shots that are even just slightly off target! This is certainly a tough course and the Himalayas loop is considered to be slightly less challenging if you’re looking for a more holiday-style course!

The Spotlight on Cyprus

This week’s blog is about the great island of Cyprus and what is has to offer you for your next golf holiday. Cyprus has fantastic year-round weather, stunning courses and is rich in culture and history making it the ideal destination for your next golf break. It is no surprise that Cyprus is becoming more and more popular every year as people discover its fantastic hotels and brilliant golf courses so make sure that you are next on the list to depart to sunny Cyprus…

city

This Mediterranean island is perfect for both a relaxing and an action-packed golf escape. You can spend hours relaxing on the beautiful, sandy beaches or by the pools at the luxury hotels or you can spend hours discovering the history and culture of local towns and taking part in the vast amount of sporting activities which are always on your doorstep here.

beach

In South Cyprus are four of the best golf courses you will ever have the opportunity to play: Aphrodite Hills, Elea Golf Club, Minthis Hills and Secret Valley. All of these golf courses are within close proximity of Paphos and all of them come highly recommended by us to you…

golf-1

Aphrodite Hills is considered to be a tough but playable enough that it is still an extremely enjoyable round of golf. The views from the course are spectacular and it is designed in such a picturesque way that you will struggle to draw your eyes away from the scenery and concentrate on the golf! The 3rd and the 7th holes are spectacular as the course is played on two fairly level landforms which are separated by a deep canyon which is incorporated into these two holes. With the fantastic scenery of the carob and olive trees as well as views of the Mediterranean Sea, challenging pot bunkers and a wide variety of different styles and shapes of holes this is a course not to be missed out on!

aphrodite-hills

Elea Golf Club is a stunning course that blends with the beautiful landscape around it and is one that all golfers love. One thing that you will notice when playing here is the abundance of bunkers that are strategically positioned to make play very difficult on some holes. A perfect example of this is the par-4 4th hole on which you need to navigate around two huge, irregularly shaped bunkers right from the tee and then navigate past some slightly smaller ones which guard the bridged green! You definitely need to concentrate on this course to steer clear of the bunkers and the water hazards that lie waiting for errant shots. This is another great golf course and is rated as the number one course in Cyprus so make sure that you grab the opportunity to see why!

elea

Minthis Hills is a beautiful course set at 550 metres above sea level which means that both the views and the sea breeze are overwhelming at times! This is another course in the area which truly blends in with its surroundings making for a very picturesque round of golf. This course is a course which is playable by those of almost all handicaps which makes it s great holiday course for you to play. Concentration is needed, especially on the back nine, in order to score well as the holes are all quite different with different challenges from the 12th with the valley alongside the left of the fairway to the uphill 14th and 17th holes. Yet another fantastic course that is perfect for your next golf break to Cyprus.

minthis-hills

Last, but not least is the Secret Valley golf club which starts off as an easy round before gradually getting more difficult as you start to play through the holes, if you can avoid hitting errant shots into the water hazards along the course then you have a good chance at playing to your handicap here. With a lovely variety of holes, a beautiful backdrop of rock formations and different trees it is no surprise that golfers enjoy this course. With all four of these courses offering you a very different round of golf with guaranteed fantastic weather and beautiful scenery it isn’t a shock that Cyprus is becoming more and more attractive to golfers.

secret-valley

When considering where to stay to play these beautiful courses in South Cyprus we cannot recommend highly enough the Thanos Hotels or the Aphrodite Hills hotel and residences but if you are looking to perhaps go to North Cyprus which is equally as beautiful then be sure to take a look at Korineum Residences.
