Donegal Golf Club
Donegal Golf Club is a spectacular links course set on a 182 acre peninsula that extends out into the Atlantic Ocean and Donegal Bay.
Originally designed by the legendary and renowned golf course architect, Eddie Hackett, the course has been continually revamped to master the art of a truly special links golf course. The 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke who is a member of the course has stated that Donegal Golf Club is one of his favourite courses in the world.
This par 73 courses stretches at just over 7,400 yards from the back tees with a variety of different tee options to make it playable for all levels of golfer. Consisting of two loops of nine, the outside loop lays alongside the ocean and the dunes, providing stunning views, however you are completely unsheltered from the elements. The inner loop is more protected but you will no doubt still experience the ever changing sea breeze which can cause havoc to your game.
The course is a great to walk which gives you plenty of opportunity to enjoy the breath-taking views of the Atlantic and rugged North West Ireland coastline. The course is accessed via a long narrow road that’s takes you onto the headland leaving you with no shelter from the elements.
Look out for the signature 5th, otherwise known as “The Valley of Tears” an unforgettable Par 3 that has the ability to make or break your game. Donegal Golf Club has all the facilities to ensure you are match fit for the superb round ahead with a driving range, putting and chipping greens as well as a bunker practice area.
