Prestwick Golf Club
The prestigious Prestwick Golf Club has a history that goes back over 160 years during a time where golf was only just beginning to take off.
Back in 1851, 57 enthusiastic members who met frequently at the Red Lion Inn, took the opportunity to purchase two cottages opposite the tavern to start the formation of this historic golf venue. Under the guidance of Old Tom Morris, this course grew from strength to strength and became the pinnacle of golf in its early years.
Prestwick holds a remarkable history, being the first course to hold The Open Championship and continued to do so it in its significant past. The very first Open tee shot was struck in 1860, just west of the clubhouse!
Despite not holding The Open in the recent past, Prestwick is an excellent course and is ranked as one of the best in Scotland. No wonder why it features on most golf fanatics top courses to play.
This historic Par 71 course offers a challenging round of links golf which is thoroughly enjoyable to play. The consistent wind, rolling terrain and gorse rough make a special links layout and one worthy of the trip to Scotland and the Ayrshire coast.
The prime land found here is perfect for the ultimate links course, and why many golfers travel to this special part of Scotland each year. Prestwick Golf Club battles with the Old Course at Royal Troon and the Ailsa course at Trump Turnberry as one of the top links courses in the region.
With a remarkable history, spectacular course and traditional Scottish hospitality, there are few golf clubs that can rival the golfing experience found at Prestwick Golf Club. Why not challenge the top three links courses in Ayrshire and play Prestwick Golf Club, Royal Troon and Trump Turnberry.
