Slaley Hall – Priestman Course.
Your Next Golf Escape Starts Here.
The Priestman course is a slightly newer course than its sister, the Hunting course.
Although many golfers that come to Slaley Hall want to take on the Hunting course, the Priestman layout is superb and beautifully compliments a round on the Hunting course.
The Priestman course was opened for play in 1999 and isn’t considered to be the most difficult of golf courses but you still will need to play a good fame in order to finish the round with a good scorecard. The course is made difficult by the fact that there are many, strategically placed, gaping bunkers positioned along the course and these sand traps are the course’s biggest defence. The course presents an array of golfing challenges along the way with the gaping bunkers and several water hazards along the way. However, the course boasts beautifully wide fairways which should inspire you with confidence right from the tee shot. From many of the holes you can enjoy panoramic views over the lovely, Northumberland countryside. The Priestman course at Slaley Hall is the perfect companion for its sister course, the Hunting course, and is the perfect holiday course with stunning views, an interesting layout and firm but fair hazards for you to navigate your way around.
The Priestman course stretches away from the resort itself and boasts stunning views of the Northumberland countryside from each of the impressive 18 holes here. Due to the fact that the course is more open than the Hunting course, it is much more exposed to the wind which can make your round here a little difficult.
Before you round, take a few practice shots at the club’s driving range and after you have finished your 18th putt, enjoy a few drinks and a meal in the clubhouse where you can discuss your successes of your round whilst enjoying the atmosphere of the clubhouse.
You are gently eased into the round on the Priestman course with two gentle opening par-4s but then you must face a few difficult but cracking short holes! The par-5 4th hole boasts an elevated tee from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of the rolling countryside before you wind your way down the fairway before reaching the green which is lurking behind two small ponds.
The 11th hole is a short hole with a ‘drop’ green but you must carry your ball over the burn in order to reach the green successfully. The course boasts an expansive and interesting layout which will suit both big-hitters and those who play more strategically.
The Priestman course is the perfect accompaniment to a great few nights’ stay at Slaley Hall Hotel.

Our group of 4 golfers have just returned from a most enjoyable 3 day trip to the Isle of Wight. The short ferry crossing works very efficiently, we even managed to get on the return ferry despite arriving about 10 minutes before departure. Day 1 we played 9-hole Osbourne, a lovely parkland course close to the House and with occasional sea views. Day 2 we were at Freshwater Bay, fortunately in the most benign conditions as it is quite exposed but with fantastic sea views and many great holes. Our final day was at Sandown and Shanklin which is clearly the best club on the island and where (despite the delayed start which) we played some cracking holes. Our Travel Lodge in Newport worked very well for us and the whole trip was excellent value.

Excellent service.
Long weekend away April 2019. Great golf, accommodation, food etc at Avisford Park. We have used Golf Escapes many times and they never fail to deliver. The four of us are looking forward to our next weekend away, this time to Cottesmore in September. A special 'Thank You' to Claire for all of your help in accommodating our requirements.

We are already planning next year with Golf Escapes.
This is the fourth time we have used Golf Escapes. In the past it has been to France although this year we went to the Isle of Wight. We were concerned about Brexit. Every part of each visit has been a success with the golf, travel and the hotels. An important element is that we deal with a person who can always be contacted. We find the staff both friendly and knowledgeable. We are already planning next year with Golf Escapes.

Nothing’s too much trouble.
Golf Escapes arranged for 9 of us to stay at The East Sussex National. After booking we had to make some minor adjustments and had a few questions which was handled as if nothing’s too much trouble. Would also thoroughly recommend East Sussex national for a golf stay. Excellent facilities and 2 GREAT golf courses.

We had a really enjoyable time and all aspects of the venue - food, accommodation and golf course were well up tour expectations. Certainly on our radar for a future visit.
