About Fancourt - Outeniqua
The “Men’s” Springbok marker tees measure 6,546 yards, compared to 6,916 yards on the adjoining Montagu Course, highlighting Fancourt Outeniqua Golf Course as the shorter layout. As you would expect, what these two courses share is immaculate conditioning, along with firm, fast greens that place a strong emphasis on the short game.
A round at Fancourt Outeniqua Golf Course begins in front of the outside deck of Monet’s restaurant, so be prepared to play to an audience. This opening hole, a short and gently undulating par 4, gives a clear indication of what lies ahead. Water hazards come into play on 11 holes, while a well-bunkered layout from tee to green will punish any wayward shots. Unlike the Montagu Course, Outeniqua only returns to the clubhouse after 18 holes; however, a separate halfway house ensures you are refreshed mid-round.
Since opening in the early 1990s, Fancourt’s Montagu and Outeniqua Golf Courses have matured into two of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in South Africa, consistently ranked among the country’s top 20. A round on either is a memorable experience, sculpted with exceptional attention to detail and designed with the coastal George winds in mind.
The terrain of Outeniqua is constantly changing, with notable changes in elevation particularly along the tree-lined boundary of the course.
Members of the Golf Escapes team enjoyed the 13th green where you enter into a beautiful parkland arena. Here the next five holes are located around water hazards which provides a great location for a memorable closing stretch.
Fancourt has a strong local community caddie programme for obvious reasons, and golfers playing the Montagu or Outeniqua are encouraged to either employ caddies to carry bags or serve as forecaddies for golfers using carts.
