Jumeirah Golf Estates
The eagerly awaited opening of the “Earth” Course at Jumeirah golf Estates commenced at the Dubai World Golf Championship, and was won by Lee Westwood in November 2009. Since then, the par 72 course has hosted the prestigious event each year, crowning the number one tour player on the European circuit.
Earth Course
The Greg Norman design features natural undulations, bunkers and water throughout the layout. This course creates a ‘picture-perfect scene’ with luscious shrubs and over 3,500 trees lining the beautiful rolling fairways. The Earth course is rounded up fantastically with an unforgettable challenge; the final 4 holes are played alongside or over water in the creek. These last 4 holes have understandably been described by Greg Norman, the course’s designer, as ‘’the most challenging mile in golf’’.
The fairways of this course are deceivably generous; due to their sloped gradient the player can easily be lured into a false sense of security once they spot an open fairway. Across the fairways and bunkers, the wood chip areas makes it even harder for the player to recover their ball. To intensify the challenge of the Earth course, over 100 bunkers have been strategically placed across the greens. Natural elements also come into play on this course; wind can create some erratic scenarios, resulting in golfers having to alter their game strategy.
