Dudsbury - Championship Course

  • The Dudsbury Championship course is a fantastic par 71 championship course, designed by Donald Steel, stretches to just over 6,900 yards and is set amongst 160 acres of stunning Dorset countryside. With a wide range of different but equally challenging holes , this is a great course to play on your next golf escape to Dorset.

The course has been the host to many prestigious events over the years including the PGA Europro Tour and the BMW PGA Order of Merit Championship. The course is always in excellent condition as it boasts an automated irrigation system to all greens, tees and fairways which means that this is a great course that can be played at any time of year and you will still get the best possible conditions. The greens on the course were constructed to meet USGA specification and are all well-guarded by large bunkers and water hazards – with water featuring on 14 out of the 18 holes, this can be a tricky course and one that you might want to bring several spare balls to. Although you need to plan each shot carefully in order to score well and avoid the water hazards, it is an excellent course that can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities making it an ideal addition to your golf break to Dorset.

    Full details

Before you start your round on the Dudsbury Championship course, you can enjoy the club’s facilities which include a large USGA standard floodlit putting green and a chipping and practice green with a practice bunker as well as a covered driving range.
Although the greens run true and this is not an overly difficult course, you must be wary of the many water hazards and the long grass which can catch your wayward shots and make it hard for you to score well. Due to the openness of the course, there is also the issue of the winds which can often steer your balls off course!
The course’s feature hole is arguably the 16th where the green is situated beyond two large lakes which means the stronger your drive is, the more successful you will be at reaching the green and avoiding the water!
This is a beautiful and scenic course which can prove challenging to some, especially when the wind is up and you can be easily distracted by the stunning Dorset countryside. When your round is finished, make sure to have a drink and a bite to eat in the clubhouse here.
