Formby Hall - Championship Old Course

Formby is widely considered to be one of the world’s finest Championship links golf courses and is a great course that can challenge golfers of all abilities as from the back tees the course measures over 7,000 yards. Throughout the course, you can enjoy incredible scenery and well-manicured fairways.

The course has had input from many designers since the first nine holes were built in 1884 including Willie Park, Harry Colt, Taylor and Donald Steel. The course is one large anti-clockwise circle that loops around the Formby Ladies’ Club with each hole posing a unique layout and challenge to golfers of all abilities. There is no denying that this course is a little tricky but with four different tee options it is playable by those of all handicaps. This is arguably one of the most beautiful courses in the UK with its stunning views, as the course is set amongst 470 acres on a Site of Special Scientific Interest there is no shortage of wildlife or scenery to enjoy. This is a great course that will appeal to links lovers as well as those who enjoy the softness of inland golf and therefore is an essential addition to any golf break to North West England.

The staff at Formby Golf Club will always be warm and welcoming and the service that you can expect from them is no less than the service expected from staff within the lovely Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa.

With three bars to choose from, you will never be short of somewhere to have a few cold drinks and even a light lunch after your round on the golf course. Lunch and Suppers are served in the Dining Room where you can enjoy full meals and a great atmosphere as well as fantastic views out across the golf course.

Whilst you are playing the course, make sure that you make the most of the first few holes as they are the most straightforward and the course is considered to be very tricky through the middle holes and as the course is designed in a loop, you will be heavily affected by the wind no matter which direction it is blowing in. With the wind as well as 83 strategically placed bunkers this is definitely a tricky course but one that you can score well on if you avoid the many hazards protecting the greens and lining the fairways!

This is a beautifully scenic course with an interesting layout and some special holes, particularly between the 7th and 10th and it is certainly a course that any discerning golfer should have on their list to play.
