Il Picciolo Golf Club
Il Picciolo Golf Club, designed by the prestigious architect Luigi Rota Carenmoli, is a spectacular golf club located in Etnas Natural Park within the North-Eastern region of the mountain. Winding through a mass of oak trees, vineyards and hazelnut trees, if you are looking for a unique golfing experience, the Il Picciolo Golf Club makes the perfect choice.
The course winds its way through ancient lava flows, carved out by Mount Etna, which has morphed the landscape offering remarkable hints and variants, which will surely not be forgotten. Despite being developed in 1989 with its remarkably unique landscape, the Il Picciolo Golf Club looks and feels as if it has been there centuries. Here you will find a smaller more technical course with plenty of twists and turns, water hazards and out of bounds to steer clear from.

Luigi Rota Carenmoli, the architect of this course, achieved his aims of utilising the natural landscape’s hilly terrain and natural hazards to create an unforgettable golfing experience. To intensify the challenge, many doglegs and undulations have also been carved into the landscape here. The fairways are generally characterised by sloped terrains and several water and sand hazards. The holes are typically tight and consistently push your golfing ability to its limit, with several twists and turns to negotiate. Combined with small fast greens, the Il Picciolo Golf Club offers an invigorating challenge that is sure to be remembered for years to come.
One of the most notable holes on the Il Picciolo Golf Club includes the short par-3 15th hole. Its distinctiveness is predominantly due to its length; this hole measures a mere 100 yards. However, this hole is also widely considered to be memorable due to the beautiful views of Mount Etna here, and its three-tiered green. Arguably the most challenging hole is the narrow 387-metre-long 11th, a long par 4 featuring a water hazard stretching along the right side of the green.
The oldest course and first 18-hole golf course on the island, Il Picciolo is a traditional golf club, reliant on the beautiful, well maintained course and natural surroundings, with a spectacular Mount Etna backdrop. Oak trees, vineyards and hazelnut trees line the course making it a pleasure to walk and enjoy the tranquil ambience, and the delightful setting this area provides. In addition to this fabulous course, the Il Picciolo Golf Club boasts several excellent practice facilities, including a driving range, pitching area and putting green.
