About

About Salobre Golf Old Course

Opened in 1999, the Old Course is the established favourite at Salobre Golf.

Designed by Roland Favré, this 18-hole, par-71 layout winds through the volcanic hills above Maspalomas, with elevated tees, broad fairways and smaller greens keeping the round interesting from start to finish.

It is an enjoyable resort course, but there is enough challenge to keep experienced golfers engaged. The changing elevations and well-placed hazards reward sensible club selection, while the rugged scenery gives the course a character that feels unmistakably Gran Canaria.

The Course That Put Salobre on the Map

The Old Course has been at the heart of Salobre Golf for more than 25 years.

Its elevated tees, sweeping fairways and smaller greens give the round a good mix of playability and challenge.

There is room to enjoy the game, but the changes in elevation and carefully placed hazards mean you still need to think your way around.

The volcanic backdrop is a big part of the appeal, with long views across the surrounding hills adding a real sense of place.

Tournament Pedigree

The Old Course has the stronger tournament history of Salobre’s two layouts.

It hosted the Spanish PGA in 2006, as well as the Spanish Senior and Women’s Championships in 2001.

That history gives the course a little extra weight, while it still keeps the relaxed resort feel that makes it such an enjoyable holiday round.

Where to Stay

The natural hotel pairing is Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, the five-star hotel within the resort.

Set in the hills above Maspalomas, it has a peaceful feel, with swimming pools, a spa and plenty of space to relax after golf.

With both the Old and New courses on site, it is an easy base for a Gran Canaria golf holiday with plenty of variety and everything close at hand.

Updated for a New Era

Since 2022, the Old Course has been part of a wider renovation plan led by architect David Williams.

New bunkers and updated tee areas are gradually giving the layout a more refined desert-style character, helping it sit even more naturally within the island’s dry, dramatic landscape.

Practice Facilities

Salobre has a good range of facilities for golfers looking to loosen up before a round or spend a little time working on their game.

The resort’s Practice Mile caters for both long and short-game practice, while the golf academy offers professional coaching for different abilities. Trackman technology is also available for golfers looking for a more detailed look at their swing and ball flight.

Pair It with the New Course

From November 2026, Salobre Golf will once again offer two full 18-hole courses.

The Salobre Golf New Course brings a bolder, more adventurous feel, with volcanic ravines, rocky slopes and a more technical challenge.

The Old Course is the more established and settled of the two, with its broad fairways and tournament history.

Playing both gives golfers two noticeably different rounds without needing to leave the resort, making Salobre a very appealing addition to a wider Canary Islands golf holiday.

When to Play

Gran Canaria is an excellent option for winter golf, with a mild year-round climate and plenty of sunshine when conditions back in the UK are far less inviting.

The Old Course can be enjoyed throughout the year, but the return of the full New Course from November 2026 makes winter 2026/27 an especially tempting time to visit Salobre.
