Set within 220 acres of predominantly Hertfordshire countryside, The Shire London is best known for its unique course layout consisting of three distinctive course styles: links, parkland and American.

With an equal number of par-3’s, 4’s and 5’s, the Masters Course is the only Seve Ballesteros design in the UK, and lays down a demanding test for players of all abilities with a total yardage of 7,028 off the championship tees. Situated on the outskirts of Barnet, just 13 miles north of central London, The Shire London has been named as London’s #1 golfing experience, featuring gently undulating terrain with a number of different visual aspects. At times you’ll enjoy a links feel with gorse and high fescue grass lining the fairways. At other times the woodland exudes more of a parkland feel, while small lakes & ponds create an American style with water coming in to play on 12 holes.

When the golf course opened for play in 2007, Seve’s main philosophy was to provide maximum variety and maximum enjoyment. The unique course design certainly doesn’t disappoint, with the opening four holes all bringing water in to play, providing one of the most challenging starts in golf within the Greater London area. As the course meanders through the countryside, Seve’s layout continually keeps you on your toes, and builds to a very testing 455-yard par-4 18 th hole. Here, the final green is defended by an S-shaped lake (S standing for Seve), which presents a very tough long approach shot to the green – make or break! Aside from the 18-hole Masters course, The Shire also boasts a 9-hole Academy course.

The whole trip was excellent value.

Our group of 4 golfers have just returned from a most enjoyable 3 day trip to the Isle of Wight. The short ferry crossing works very efficiently, we even managed to get on the return ferry despite arriving about 10 minutes before departure. Day 1 we played 9-hole Osbourne, a lovely parkland course close to the House and with occasional sea views. Day 2 we were at Freshwater Bay, fortunately in the most benign conditions as it is quite exposed but with fantastic sea views and many great holes. Our final day was at Sandown and Shanklin which is clearly the best club on the island and where (despite the delayed start which) we played some cracking holes. Our Travel Lodge in Newport worked very well for us and the whole trip was excellent value.

Excellent service.

Long weekend away April 2019. Great golf, accommodation, food etc at Avisford Park. We have used Golf Escapes many times and they never fail to deliver. We are already planning next year with Golf Escapes.

This is the fourth time we have used Golf Escapes. In the past it has been to France although this year we went to the Isle of Wight. We were concerned about Brexit. Every part of each visit has been a success with the golf, travel and the hotels. An important element is that we deal with a person who can always be contacted. We find the staff both friendly and knowledgeable. We are already planning next year with Golf Escapes.

Nothing’s too much trouble.

Golf Escapes arranged for 9 of us to stay at The East Sussex National. After booking we had to make some minor adjustments and had a few questions which was handled as if nothing’s too much trouble.
