Things to do

The Gondwana Safari Experience
Gondwana Game Reserve offers a relaxed, malaria-free safari experience on the Garden Route. Game drives take place in the early morning and late afternoon, each lasting around 2 to 3 hours. Guests usually enjoy two drives per overnight stay, with time in between to relax at the lodge. Wildlife sightings vary, but the reserve is home to the Big Five along with giraffes, antelope and a wide range of birdlife. It’s an easy, well-paced introduction to safari that fits comfortably into a golf-focused itinerary.

Table Mountain
Table Mountain is Cape Town’s most iconic landmark, and the cable car makes reaching the summit easy. From the top, you’ll get sweeping views over the city, the Atlantic coastline and the surrounding mountains. Short walking paths allow you to explore at your own pace while enjoying the panoramic scenery.

Discover the Garden Route
When based at Fancourt, you’ll be within reach of several Garden Route highlights. Knysna is a popular outing, known for its lagoon, waterfront restaurants and laid-back feel. A short drive away, Wilderness offers long beaches, forest viewpoints and quiet walking paths for those who enjoy being outdoors. The region’s scenery is varied and easily explored in short, manageable outings.

Ocean Experiences & Coastal Drives
The coastal drive along the Garden Route, particularly between George, Wilderness and Mossel Bay, is an easy and scenic journey. Driving time is around 1 hour, but most guests allow 1.5 to 2.5 hours to enjoy viewpoints, short walks and coffee stops along the way. The route offers ocean views, cliffside lookouts and beaches, and can be done comfortably as a half-day activity alongside golf or sightseeing.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
Set on the slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. It’s ideal for peaceful walks, picnics and enjoying the treetop walkway with views across the gardens and the mountain.

Cape Peninsula Drive
Although technically a little outside the city, this is a must-do while staying in Cape Town. The route includes scenic stops along Chapman’s Peak Drive, a visit to Cape Point, and a stop at Boulders Beach to see the African penguins. It can be done in half a day or stretched into a full day.
Cape Town Food, Wine & Markets
Cape Town has a strong food scene with everything from casual cafés to top restaurants. The Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill is a popular weekend stop for local produce and small food stalls. The city also has a growing craft beer and gin culture, with relaxed tasting rooms dotted around the centre.

Art & Culture in Cape Town
The city has a vibrant creative scene. The Zeitz MOCAA at the Waterfront showcases contemporary African art, while the Woodstock and CBD areas have smaller galleries, studios and street art that are easy to explore.

V&A Waterfront in Cape Town
The V&A Waterfront is a lively harbour district with restaurants, shops, markets and scenic spots along the water. It’s an easy place to spend a relaxed afternoon, whether you want a casual meal, a bit of shopping or a simple walk with great views of the harbour and Table Mountain.

Camps Bay & Clifton Beaches
Camps Bay is about 9-12 KM from The Vineyard Hotel depending on the route you take. The drive is straightforward, and once you reach Camps Bay, everything is walkable along the beachfront. Clifton beaches are known for soft sand, clear water and dramatic mountain backdrops. They’re ideal for a gentle stroll, a quiet moment by the ocean or a drink at one of the beachfront cafés. The Twelve Apostles mountain range creates a stunning backdrop at sunset.

Bo-Kaap
Bo-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most colourful neighbourhoods, famous for its bright houses and rich cultural heritage. It’s a small, walkable area where you can take photos, visit the local museum or browse spice shops that reflect the area’s Cape Malay roots. It’s close to the V&A Waterfront, Long Street and the Company’s Garden, making it easy to combine with other city sightseeing.

Explore Stellenbosch Wine Estates
Stellenbosch offers dozens of estates within a short radius. Many are easy to combine with golf at De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate, which is only a few minutes from several popular tasting rooms. Estates in this area often feature outdoor terraces, mountain views and calm garden settings. A typical tasting takes about an hour, making it simple to visit two estates in one afternoon.

Vineyard Tours Near Evinvale
Vineyard walks and cellar tours (45-60 minutes) are available at several estates close to Erinvale. Morgenster, Lourensford and Vergelegen all offer vineyard or garden areas that can be explored on foot, with optional guided elements. These are gentle, unhurried tours where guests can learn about local grape varieties, harvesting and the winemaking process. The scenery is a major part of the experience, with the Helderberg mountains forming a dramatic backdrop.

Wine & Lunch Combinations
Stellenbosch and the Helderberg region are known for their farm-to-table restaurants, many located on wine estates. A wine-and-lunch pairing fits comfortably between golf rounds or on travel days. Popular options are within 20 minutes of the hotel, making them convenient without feeling rushed.
