Where is the Castelgandolfo Golf Course?
Castelgandolfo Golf Course is located near the capital of Rome. The course is situated close to Albano Lake which formed within the crater of a dormant volcano.
Castelgandolfo is set within the remains of an old volcanic crater. In 1987, Robert Trent Jones opened the first nine holes of the course, followed a year later by the second nine holes. The 18-hole course has been built at the bottom of the Citadel and follows the landscape beautifully. It doesn’t take long for it to start testing you.
The 4th hole is stroke index 1 and it requires a precise tee shot to a narrow landing strip, with water running up both sides of the fairway. If you managed to find the short grass with your tee shot you are then required to take on a small green protected by bunkers. A par is an excellent score on this perilously pretty hole. Castelgandolfo would be a welcome addition to any golfing itinerary.
