Quinta do Lago - South Golf Course
Where is Quinta do Lago?
3rd best course in the Algarve, Quinta do Lago has quickly gained a reputation for being one of Portugal’s finest. Originally designed by William Mitchell and opened in 1974, it has hosted the Portuguese Open on eight separate occasions with previous winners including Colin Montgomerie and Mark McNulty. In May 2020 the course was closed for renovations. The owners invested 7 million euros and it took over a year to complete, the course reopened in September 2021. The result of which is that the course is reported to be in the condition of any course in the Algarve.
The layout has not dramatically changed, they have done some clearing out of trees to let light through, scrub areas have gone and replaced with bark which looks better on the eye as well as catching the golf ball quicker. The lakes have been opened up so better views have been created while playing the holes. This makes everything look that little bit better.
