El Chaparral

A Fun and Challenging Course

El Chaparral is a really fun course. The design is very different from others in the area, making it an interesting course to have in your itinerary.

We always recommend playing it in the middle of your holiday, as it’s quite tight and a tough one to start with. Its undulating fairways, surrounded by pine trees, add to the challenge.

Another attraction of El Chaparral is its welcoming clubhouse. After your round, stay for a drink, as the staff are incredibly friendly and give the superb clubhouse a great atmosphere.

A real gem of the Costa del Sol.

Castro Marim

Three Great Nine-Hole Courses

In the east of the Algarve lie some great golf courses, and with the town of Tavira making a fantastic base for exploring the region, it’s a wonderful place to take your next golf holiday.

Out of the local courses, Castro Marim is one of the best for value for money.

Three loops of nine holes, the Grouse, Guadiana and Atlantico, make up the resort, and all three are great.

The Grouse is the newest and perhaps the best if you want to take in views of the rolling hills.

The Guadiana is the tightest, set amongst pine trees. Several of the greens are elevated and can be particularly quick. Beware of the bunkers!

Finally, the Atlantico. Like the Guadiana, it’s lined with pine trees, with doglegs and strategically placed bunkers adding to the challenge.

Great Value in the Eastern Algarve

Definitely worth playing when staying in the east of the Algarve, and an area in general that must be considered for your next Golf Escape.

El Valle

A Course That Makes You Think

Murcia is a golfer’s paradise, with so many golf courses in close proximity to the seafront and Murcia Airport, many offering brilliant value for money.

You can play several different courses without travelling too far from your base in Los Alcázares.

El Valle is the Golf Escapes pick, though.

A vast open landscape littered with bunkers makes it a course where you have to think your way around. Tight fairways also add to the difficulty.

Bunkers, Water and Beautiful Scenery

When you think you’ve mastered the fairways and bunkers, you’re then faced with water hazards that add another challenge to your round.

Tough, but a very pleasant walk, taking in views of the hills surrounding you.

Troia

A Course Worth the Journey

Troia is a treat to play if you’re staying anywhere in the Lisbon area and fancy a good day out.

The course is situated on the Troia Peninsula, which means taking a short ferry journey from Setubal.

When you get there, though, you’ll see why it’s worth the journey.

The course is stunning.

Championship Golf at Great Value

Its location away from Portugal’s busier golf resorts can make it an appealing alternative to some of the country’s more expensive championship courses.

Playing alongside a peaceful beach, it has a links feel at times, with sandy wasteland bordering the fairways.

A challenge, but a real favourite in the Golf Escapes office.
