West Cliffs Golf Links
The long awaited West Cliffs Golf Links opened in June 2017 and is the newest course in this largely undiscovered region of Portugal.
Owned and managed by the popular Praia del Rey Golf Resort the West Cliffs course has everything….and more. Huge congratulations should go to the design team and those at Praia del Rey that made this happen. They have created a course that is arguably the best golf course in Portugal and no expense has been spared to provide golfers with a golfing experience they will never forget. Almost every hole boasts spectacular views of the Atlantic as the holes carve they way through the natural sand dunes.
This perfect golfing terrain has afforded the design team the opportunity to create a true masterpiece with rolling fairways and undulating greens providing a stern test to even the most accomplished golfers. Various tee positions mean golfers of all abilities can experience West Cliffs Golf Links but be warned, this course will demand straight, accurate golf shots if you have any chance of scoring well. Although the fairways are in the most part generous if you miss them you have little chance of finding your ball amongst the natural scrubland that covers the expansive sand dunes.

Pay attention to the starter on the first tee, he will no doubt recommend the yellow tees for your first visit as you need to know your way around. At 6000 yards this may seem short but we can assure you the course is plenty tough enough, even at this relatively short distance. For the average club golfer we’d certainly recommend the yellow tees but would suggest playing the par 3’s from the next tees back as they are a little short (115 – 130 yards) from the forward tees. Having said that there is no margin for error, hit the green or you’re facing a tough up and down to make your par.
The facilities at West Cliffs are also first class, an expansive clubhouse overlooks the 18th (what a golf hole!) and provides visitors the perfect place to reflect on what is certain to have been a very memorable day on the links. Practice facilities are available with a large driving range, short game area and challenging putting green. Buggies are available to rent locally, although the course is walkable a buggy is recommended as there are some holes where the walk from green to tee is some distance.
In short the West Cliff Golf Links is an absolute must play, we’re confident that if the quality is maintained this will become a true bucket list golf course, make sure you get in quick before everyone finds out!
